Honouring The Late Peter Smith

On behalf of Strathfield Council, Mayor Antoine Doueihi and Deputy Mayor Karen Pensabene would like to extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to Mrs Marlene Smith and family on the passing of Mr Peter Smith. He will be remembered for his legacy of extraordinary service to our local community as well as serving as Strathfield Deputy Mayor in 1996 and Mayor in 1997. Council is grateful for his commitment and dedication to a number of organisations including the Rotary and the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. He will be greatly missed.

Non-Residential Roll

Do you live in a different area but pay rates on a property in the Strathfield LGA? You are entitled to register to be included in the Non-Residential Roll to vote at the upcoming local government election. Applications must be received by 6pm on Monday 26 July 2021.

Seasonal Sport Summer 2021-2022

Are you a local sporting group? Council is seeking expressions of interest from those who would like to hire sporting facilities in the Strathfield LGA during the 2021-22 summer season. Application forms are to be sent via email to council@strathfield.nsw.gov.au by Friday 9 July.

A number of venues in Strathfield have been listed as exposure sites. Please check the NSW Health Covid-19 case locations and alerts to stay up-to-date. Anyone who attended the exposure sites is a close contact. You must get immediately tested, isolate for 14 days regardless of your result and call 1800 943 553 unless you have already been contacted by NSW Health.

Miss Dorothy Dingle

As Wimbledon moves into finals week, meet Dorothy Dingle in action at the Strathfield Recreation Club in Morwick Street on 18 October 1933. She lost to Nell Hall on that day in the semi-finals of the women’s singles at the Metropolitan Lawn Tennis Championships. On 29 March 1934 Dorothy married William Gale at St Luke’s Church, Burwood. The reception was held at Woodbine, the Broughton Road, Homebush home of the groom’s parents. The Sister Disciples of the Divine Master now occupy this site. Dorothy served on the NSW Lawn Tennis Association for many years. She died in Cabarita in 1991.
