Honouring The Late Peter SmithOn behalf of Strathfield Council, Mayor Antoine Doueihi and Deputy Mayor Karen Pensabene would like to extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to Mrs Marlene Smith and family on the passing of Mr Peter Smith. He will be remembered for his legacy of extraordinary service to our local community as well as serving as Strathfield Deputy Mayor in 1996 and Mayor in 1997. Council is grateful for his commitment and dedication to a number of organisations including the Rotary and the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. He will be greatly missed. Throwback ThursdayMiss Dorothy DingleAs Wimbledon moves into finals week, meet Dorothy Dingle in action at the Strathfield Recreation Club in Morwick Street on 18 October 1933. She lost to Nell Hall on that day in the semi-finals of the women’s singles at the Metropolitan Lawn Tennis Championships. On 29 March 1934 Dorothy married William Gale at St Luke’s Church, Burwood. The reception was held at Woodbine, the Broughton Road, Homebush home of the groom’s parents. The Sister Disciples of the Divine Master now occupy this site. Dorothy served on the NSW Lawn Tennis Association for many years. She died in Cabarita in 1991. Courtesy National Library of Australia |
