MINDSET NewsJanuary 2019In this issue, read about MINDSET’s achievements at various charity awards and all the happenings at The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival 2018 and Fun Day. The Back to the Workforce team continued to build internal capacity that supports job placements of mental health clients within Jardine businesses, while we also did not forget to recognise and applaud our Jardine Ambassadors who made these possible. Because Doing Good MattersTeam MINDSET at the Charity Transparency & Governance Awards 2018 2018 has been an exceptional year for Jardines and MINDSET. Jardines was recognised as ‘Champions of Good’ for its contributions to mental health in Singapore. While MINDSET as a charity clinched the ‘Charity Transparency Award’ (CTA) and the ‘Charity Governance Award’ (CGA) for its exemplary disclosure and sound governance practices. ‘Champions of Good' was awarded by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre to recognise organisations that have gone above and beyond to do good. MINDSET has won the CTA for three consecutive years and in 2018, was honoured the winner of the CGA (small charities category) among more than 1,000 small charities in Singapore. The CTA and CGA were conferred by Singapore's Charity Council.
The MINDSET Challenge & CarnivalEver imagined scaling up Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC), Tower 1 alongside Benjamin Kheng from local band, The Sam Willows, or taking a chance at the retro game of ‘Tikam Tikam’ with 1,000 prizes to be won? That happened at The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival 2018 held on 28 October where over 2,200 carnival-goers spent their Sunday at MBFC Tower 1 and The Lawn @ Marina Bay.
Games, food, performances, vintage Mercedes-Benz cars and even a road closure to showcase a six-metre long chalk mural brought Jardine employees, families and friends together with Singapore’s mental health community for a day dedicated to the worthy cause of mental health.
The event also marked the completion of 2018’s 10-month long effort to raise funds for MINDSET Learning Hub, MINDSET’s inaugural flagship project and donations closed at over S$375,000, above the target of S$365,000. Since 2016, The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival has raised over S$1.1 million for MINDSET Learning Hub. Kudos to our Fund Raising team for the effort and thank you to all donors for making this possible! Let’s Talk About Mental WellnessWith mental health clients placed in jobs within Jardine businesses, it is key that their supervisors and co-workers have the appropriate training and resources to support them. On 27 November, the Back to the Workforce team organised a mental wellness session for our supervisors and co-workers. Speakers from Singapore Anglican Community Services shared knowledge on how to assist colleagues who are in distress as well as provided additional resources for self-care. Through these sessions, we hope to better support job placements and are happy to share that a total of 40 clients were provided job placements within the Jardine Matheson Group in 2018. Simple, Green with Loads of FunEvery quarter, we organise the MINDSET Fun Day, a day out to give mental health clients and MINDSET representatives the opportunity to interact. It also provides caregivers with a rest day. On 22 September, 29 clients and staff from Singapore Anglican Community Services visited Bollywood Veggies, accompanied by 13 Jardine Ambassadors and MINDSET representatives. The group enjoyed a guided tour around the farm and learnt more about the various plants as well as their medicinal or culinary uses. Apart from the tour, each participant had the opportunity to customise their own terrarium during a simple workshop. Clients enjoyed the session and were happy to be able to take home their very own terrarium. The day wrapped up with lunch at the Poison Ivy Café, over a scrumptious Peranakan meal, completed with a delicious banana cake to sweeten up the day’s activities. The Ones Who Forged AheadIn each of the four Jardine Ambassador (JA) teams, a few individuals have taken on the role as Team Leaders. Team leaders are like captains onboard vessels, keeping the crew together while providing directions to navigate through rough waters. In 2018, the ‘Jardine Ambassador of the Quarter’ recognition was introduced. These team leaders collectively and selflessly requested to be excluded from the selection process and gave the opportunity for their teammates to be recognised instead. To our team leaders of JA Cohort 2017/2018, a very big thank you from MINDSET! Jardine Ambassador
