NOTICES:
Safety of our Students: It is important for the safety of our students and local residents that all parents who drive to school in the mornings and afternoons are adhering to the road rules. We ask you all to consider the following: Do not speed on our surrounding roads as many families walk to and from
school and this compromises their safety.
Do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of the school as this impacts on our students safely crossing the road.
Do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, as this will disrupt access to their private property. As a school we suggest walking or catching public transport to school to where possible. If you have to drive, there is often ample parking spaces a little further away from the school, which may also alleviate the congestion and stress of the morning. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter and your consideration of our local community.
Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day. The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning. Reminder to Parents No bicycles or scooters are to be ridden in the school gates, this
includes when coming to collect from after school clubs. No climbing is permitted on the bicycle racks.Uniform reminder:Please remember to ensure your child is coming to school in the correct school uniform. Every student needs to wear their Middle School tie, jumper and blazer and black school shoes. Headphones and mobiles:Please also remind your child that headphones must be removed and phones put away in bags as they enter the school gates in the morning. Students should not have phones out at all during the school day. If a teacher sees a phone, it will be confiscated and kept at the front office where it will have to be collected by a parent.
To Our Middle School Community,Another week draws to a close as we tidy up our LEGO robots, papier-mâché orcas, bug hotels and Tough Mudder obstacle courses! This week saw some truly impressive work across all year groups with Year 7 working in our new Makerspace, responding to artist Keith
Haring’s work by filling the space with colourful figures!
Year 6 participated in an immersive drama experience with Ms Hansen and their teachers based on their current novel ‘Trash’ by Andy Mulligan. Year 5 have been doing some hands on science, experimenting with separating different materials with filters and sieves. Year 7 and 8 have started a two-cohort showdown in their Hegarty Maths homework set up by Ms Graham and Ms Freed. I have never seen maths look so beautiful! Over the next two weeks of October, School 21 will be opening its doors of an afternoon or evening for a number of special events celebrating the wonderful diversity in our community as part of Black History Month. Come along for drumming,
drawing and drama or bring a pillow and PJs and settle in for a Friday night film! We would also like to collect pictures, artworks, stories, poems and photographs to create a community collage in our reception area. If you have any pieces you would like to add, please bring them to reception! See the flyer included for dates, times and further information. Letters have gone home this week about a Coffee Morning Parent Forum being held by Ms Drummond, the head of Primary and myself on Friday 19th October at 8:40am - 9:30am in the primary hall. Your views and feedback are important in helping to
develop and shape the school. If you are unable to attend, please fill in the letter with your views and questions and return to your child’s coach or teacher. Thank you, as always, for your support and positivity. Ms Kyrk
A Dystopian Future for Stratford? On Thursday 4th October Mattahorn Class took a walking trip into Stratford to help us with ideas for our creative writing. We are writing about what Stratford would be like after the effects of global warming and what it would look like should sea levels rise. Will Stratford face a
dystopian future? The rest of Year 5 will have the chance to visit Stratford to help with ideas next week.Nyla - Year 5
Above and Beyond: Out and About at Cafe XIXDo you enjoy hot chocolate? Well, some Middle School students had the chance to taste possibly the biggest and yummiest hot chocolate of all time!On Monday 2nd October, 12 Middle School students were taken to Cafe XIX to enjoy a hot chocolate with Miss Kyrk to reward them for being excellent role models for Middle School.Oh, how our mouths watered as we stared at the steaming hot, heart melting mug of chocolate! Be excellent and perhaps you will get the chance too!Ibtisam - Year 7
Year 5 Acting Like Twits! At the moment in drama lessons Year 5 are working on the Roald Dahl book The Twits. We are mainly focusing on the part of the story when the monkeys are in the cage and the way the Twits react to this. Students are having fun misbehaving (of course we are acting!) and being disgusting just like the Twits do themselves. Our teacher, Miss Hansen, is helping us with our performance. Some students said, “It is fun, exciting and I am really passionate about it.” and, “I love learning funny things and I especially like slapstick.”Year 5 continue to enjoy drama lessons every week.Daisy - Year 5
Year 8 Market Stall Enterprise The Year 8 enterprise project has been especially messy of late - last week it was paint, this week - cookie dough! Seven teams have been working to launch their own businesses, designing their branding, planning their budgets, costs and projected
profits and, of course, practicing their baking skills. During our last session, teams were presented with a British Bake Off style ‘technical challenge’ and the brief to independent use a new recipe to create triple chocolate cookies. It’s amazing how different one recipe can turn out! Watch this space for more information on when you can come and shop at our market.
EVO Games for Peace The incredible School 21 PE team puts on not one, not two but three fantastic sports days for our middle school over the year and the first of these is nearly upon us! On Tuesday 16th October the middle school will compete at both West Ham Park and at school through the day in a number of team
sports. Please ensure your child wears their full PE kit to school on this day (black trainers, black tracksuit and the school 21 polo shirt - no colourful leggings, shorts trousers or shoes please) and brings a water bottle. More information to follow soon!
Meet the TeamThank you to all the families who came to interpret ruins, build an actual language tree, decipher mixed up words and say things in Spanish (along with about 20 other challenge tasks!) at our Meet the Team event this week. The partnership between home and school is one we are eager
to grow, especially in line with our value of Community. With this in mind we would be appreciative if you could take a few minutes to give us some feedback by clicking here and answering the few questions provided
Thank you for your continued support!
