MINDSET NewsMay 2018Read about the new initiatives we started to raise awareness on mental health and to get clients back into the workforce, as well as the engaging activities organised by our Jardine Ambassadors. Find out who’s the Jardine Ambassador for the Quarter and be updated on the details of our annual The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival! Colours of MINDSETRaising awareness for mental health and reducing stigma surrounding mental illness have always been an uphill battle. To help bridge the topic, we started new initiatives to broaden our outreach and share the mental health message. We are organising ‘Colours of MINDSET’, our first art exhibition that showcases artworks of mental health clients in public spaces. Additionally, we are excited to involve Jardine employees in this effort. If you are keen to give your support to mental health and have an artistic flair, you have the opportunity to collaborate with a mental health client on a painting at the Mini-MINDSET Days on 25 May and 8 June. Prizes will be given out for artwork by mental health clients as well as collaboration pieces. You can also decide which artwork is your favourite piece by voting through People’s Choice!
From now till July 2018, we also call on your support to organise team bonding ‘Art Jamming’ sessions conducted at the MINDSET Learning Hub every Friday. You can enjoy an interactive session with their colleagues and learn basic painting techniques from an arts facilitator. All paintings can be submitted for Jardine’s Best Artist where you stand to win attractive cash prizes! Limited sessions remain, so gather a group of 10 to 12 and sign up with us today! Contact admin@mindset.com.sg for more information on the sessions. Employees from JOS at MINDSET Learning Hub for team bonding 'Art Jamming'! Gettings Clients Back to WorkOne of the focus areas of the Back to the Workforce team is the ‘Internal Skills Training’. Aimed at supporting clients return to the workforce, a resume writing workshop was organised on 15 March to improve clients’ resumes and increase their chances during the job seeking process. Later in the year, a one-to-one coaching session on interview skills will be organised for mental health clients. 25 clients and 10 staff from various Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) went on a site visit to Cold Storage, Plaza Singapura on 26 April. The visit provided insights into supermarket operations and the working environment. At the end of the session, 15 clients participated in the group interview, and three were shortlisted. We wish the clients all the best in their future endeavours!
To increase the opportunities for job placements within the Jardine Matheson Group companies, the Back to the Workforce team also held a sharing session with VWOs. Held at the MINDSET Learning Hub, JAs shared about the placement process as well as provided MINDSET updates. VWO partners also had the opportunity to express their thoughts and opinions and provide insights to the type of job roles suitable and sought after by clients. Jardine Ambassadors accompanied and guided clients around the S.E.A. Aquarium A Fun Day Under the Sea48 clients and staff from the Institute of Mental Health visited the S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa in March. Supported by 19 Jardine Ambassadors, the outing kicked off with an ice-breaker where clients and JAs had to sketch a marine life that best represented them and to share it with everyone. Guided by the JAs, mental health clients toured the aquarium, home to over 1,000 different species. The visit provided clients with the opportunity to learn more about marine life. Some of them also had the opportunity to touch starfish and sea creatures at the Discovery Touch Pool. Clients expressed that were thrilled by the visit, which was the first for many of them. And thanked the JAs who made the event possible. MINDSET Fun Days are quarterly events organised by Jardine Ambassadors to allow mental health clients and MINDSET representatives to interact. It also provides their caregivers with a rest day.
Boosting the JA Team SpiritWhile we take care of the mental well-being of others, we do not forget our most hardworking and committed Jardine Ambassadors. Apart from trainings and workshops, we also organise group bonding sessions twice a year to foster interactions among our JAs. On 6 April, JAs participated in activities that required both brains and brawn. To increase their understanding of MINDSET, the JAs completed a specially curated “Ridiculous Race” with a series of tasks related to MINDSET as they raced around the Kallang precinct. To build their endurance and teamwork, JAs spent the afternoon dragon boating from the Kallang River to the Singapore Flyer, and back! Basic rowing techniques were given by instructors and off into the deep end our JAs went. To create better synergy among them, they had to complete various rowing drills, and the dragon boating concluded with a friendly 100m race. Jardine Ambassador of the QuarterOn top of their daily job responsibilities, our Jardine Ambassadors go beyond to fulfil their commitment to MINDSET.
