YOUR VIEWS ARE NEEDED ABOUT SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE PHYSICAL HEALTH CARE OF PEOPLE DIAGNOSED WITH SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESSES

A clinically led (London Strategic Clinical Networks) group called ‘Stolen Years’ has just started. This group will be making recommendations to improve physical healthcare provision for people diagnosed with severe mental illnesses and to reverse the tendency for people with such diagnoses to die much earlier than other members of the public.

The leads for the group have just produced some draft guidelines for commissioners about the approach which they need to take. So far, though, there has been almost no input about the guidelines from people with lived experience - Researcher Dorothy Gould, who is asking for your views, is the only member of the Stolen Years group who has lived experience.

Would you be willing to help by commenting on the draft guidelines, using the following prompt questions as a guide?

• How well do you think the 10 standards on page 3 reflect the physical healthcare wishes and needs of people diagnosed with severe mental illnesses?
• What do you think of the content for these 10 standards (pages 4-14)?
• How well do you think the standards and the content for them will resolve physical healthcare issues for people on psychiatric medication who have severe mental illness diagnoses?
