Leadership Academy Applications Due Oct. 31

The Austin Bar/AYLA Leadership Academy was established to assist Austin-area lawyers in making a difference in our community and in service to the Bar.

A class of approximately 30 members will be selected from applications submitted by lawyers of all areas of practice, firm size and levels of experience. The Academy will begin with a mandatory retreat, followed by a series of six lunch presentations during which participants will network with and enjoy lunch presentations by leaders in federal, state and local government, public education, non-profit organizations, and the Bar. The course will culminate with the organization of an optional class project.

The 2014 Leadership Class will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the following dates (all Wednesdays): Jan. 22, Feb. 12, March 5, March 26, April 16, and May 7.

Please confirm that you are available to attend all meetings before applying. The mandatory retreat will take place on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

The Austin Bar is looking for attorney volunteers, especially those who handle traffic tickets, criminal law, family law, bankruptcy, veteran benefits, consumer issues, or wills/estate planning, to help veterans in need.

Austin Lawyers Support Group

A confidential monthly education and support group for lawyers, judges, and law students seeking help or support while healing from depression, addiction, job stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

Date: Thursday, Oct. 31
Time: Noon to 1:15 p.m.
Location: Austin Bar Association, 816 Congress Ave., 3rd Floor, Bluebonnet Room (free parking, parking garage entrance on the righthand side of 9th Street, just after the light at Colorado)
Format: A 45-minute speaker (an expert in the mental health field), then 30 minutes of peer support (lawyers supporting lawyers)
