We have some exciting news about Aquarius! This super fun game of elemental connections has been in the Looney Labs catalog since 1998. It was our second product after Fluxx, and it is near and dear to our hearts.

But there was one tricky thing about this game... with just 80 wider-than-Fluxx cards, it couldn't be group printed with our other titles, which are all 100 Fluxx-sized cards. So we decided to take the leap and redesign the cards to match the rest--100 smaller sized cards. In order to do that, we added a few new card orientations, as well (see Andy's blog post for details).

But we didn't stop there. Since we were redesigning the cards, we decided to take another leap and fully implement the preschool rule variants that were first added in 2009. You will now find complete rules for several preschool variants that cover a wide swath of pre-K learning objectives and are great fun, to boot! And you'll see that the age range on the box is now 3-Adult. This game is still just as much fun as it always has been for adults, but now it's also a great way to sneak in a little practice in counting, measurement, comparing, visual-spatial skills, motor skills, and social skills with your little ones.

Which brings us to our point about Easter, which is on April 4th this year. For those of you who celebrate Easter, Aquarius makes an excellent non-candy item to add to an Easter basket. It's tons of fun and will help keep your pre-K's skills sharp all summer long. While we transition from the old version to the new, we can't guarantee which version you might get in stores. But we can tell you that we have just 24 copies of the old version left in our webstore, so if you are a collector, now's your chance to grab up those last few. To use those old decks with preschoolers, you can download the new instruction sheet. Or if you hold off until March, you can get the new Aquarius in our brand new webstore that will be coming very soon! Either game is great fun and excellent educational value for your 3-5 year olds. Happy Easter!

P.S. Don't forget that there's also a great solo version for adults to enjoy!

For those of you who haven't heard yet, 2021 is our 25th anniversary, and we're celebrating all year long! We'd love for you to join in the fun! In particular, come to some of our online events and/or join our rare item raffle! Basically, we are dedicating this year to our fans who have brought us this far and whom we consider family.

So when we sat down to think about our 2021 line-up of products, we really had you all in mind. We started with Fantasy Fluxx, a brand new title in a favorite "spoof" style. And now we are ready to announce that we are also bringing three fan-favorites out of the vault for a limited time! These three titles--Martian Fluxx, Oz Fluxx, and Seven Dragons--will be available March 11th in many Friendly Local Game Stores. Oz Fluxx will also be in some Barnes & Noble stores, along with several other titles.

Usually by this time, with the launch less than 2 weeks out, we would be taking pre-orders for these games on our website, but not this time…  sorry!  We are hard at work on building a brand new webstore, and although we had hoped to have it ready by now to accept your pre-orders for these games that are coming out of the vault, we aren't quite there yet. You will be able to order the games once the new webstore is live, and we are hoping that that will be before the March 11th launch. But a better bet would be to pre-order them from a local game store if you really want them on release date. Thanks!

P.S. Please sign up here If you want to be notified when the new webstore goes live.

MidSouthCon 2022

Though both the 2020 and 2021 MidSouthCons had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kristin and Andy are now scheduled as the the gaming guests of honor at MidSouthCon in 2022. The Looneys very much enjoyed their first time at MidSouthCon in 2012, and they plan to bring even more fun this time around! If you are planning to attend MidSouthCon, keep an eye on the schedule for planned events, panel discussions, and open gaming hours. The Looneys look forward to playing your favorite games with you, signing autographs, and showing off prototypes of upcoming games!

MidSouthCon is the longest-running annual fan-run multi-genre Science Fiction Convention in the Mid-South. It covers a diverse section of fannish culture that includes Science Fiction, Fantasy, Science, Comics, Horror, Education, Costuming, Anime, and Gaming. MidSouthCon has an average of 2200 attendees, including over 100 authors, editors, publishers, scientists, artists and other guests and panelists. It features more than 200 hours of programming, including panels, the annual Art and Charity Auctions, a Masquerade costume contest, and more. There are also hundreds of hours of gaming running non-stop throughout the weekend.

I hear you're doing over 100 events this year for your 25th anniversary! How does that work?

A:  You heard correctly! We've already held a dozen, and we're just getting started! These events are short (most are an hour) and at a variety of times to accommodate different time zones around the world. We've even had folks from the UK, The Netherlands, and South Africa!

Content-wise, we've got various play-with-the-Looneys gaming sessions, several Parsely games in which I play a computer and the group is collectively playing a text adventure game, and then a variety of seminars and hang-outs such as a prototype show-and-tells, crafting events, the business side of making games, playtesting sessions, and more. If you have an idea for an event you'd like to see, email us at events@looneylabs.com and we'll see if we can make it happen!

You don't need to be very computer savvy to attend, but you do need to have a computer (not a smart phone or tablet) and a stable internet connection. We'll walk you through the rest.

In order to make sure everyone gets a chance, if there are more applicants than seats at an event, those who have attended the fewest events will get preference. But don't let that worry you... we haven't had to turn anyone away yet!

In short, we're motivated to make these events exactly what you want them to be and we hope that you'll join us for some fun this year! To get started, either purchase a $25 all-year pass or request a financial hardship ticket. We don't want anyone to miss out due to finances.

Looking forward to spending time with you soon, but if for any reason these events are not for you, be sure to check out all the other things you can participate in this year!

This is the first time we've featured an online store, rather than a physical brick and mortar location, but we felt like Board Gaming with Education had so much to offer our teachers, homeschoolers, and parents trying to help their kids in these pandemic times that we would break the mold and tell you about them!

Board Gaming with Education started with a podcast, and still has great content in podcast, blog, and social media forms. Check out this Instagram video they recently did that features Chemistry Fluxx!

But starting last year, these retired teachers also decided to add an online store to their offerings. What's particularly special about this store is that when you buy one of their educational games, it will come with all sorts of resources, like lesson plans and vocabulary matrices at no additional charge!
