Faculty of Management Strategic Plan 2016 - 2021In December 2015, the Faculty of Management formed a planning committee to begin a process, identify and engage stakeholders and create an integrative strategic plan. This strategic plan was approved by the Faculty of Management Faculty Council on October 28, 2016.AGILITY program and Faculty of Management receive major RBC gift in support of innovation, entrepreneurshipInnovation in family and small business in southern Alberta received a major boost on October 25 as RBC pledged $750,000 to the University of Lethbridge’s AGILITY program and the Faculty of Management.Faculty launches minor in Agricultural Enterprise ManagementThis fall, the first cohort of students enrolled in the Faculty of Management’s minor in Agricultural Enterprise Management, thanks to the $5-million donation from Cor Van Raay, a local agricultural entrepreneur. Full Circle (FNMI Mentorship Program)Recognizing the challenges FNMI students face, this visionary program was launched in 2012 aiming to break down barriers to their education. It encourages First Nations youth to complete high school and pursue post-secondary studies.Classrooms to Careers: U of L management students grow through Professional DevelopmentThe Student Professional Development Program (PDP) was launched three years ago to provide students with opportunities that would give them insight, knowledge and experience to assist with their academic career and beyond.Perseverance pays off for PatelPriscilla Patel, along with her three siblings and their mother, Malti, left Penang so Priscilla could study new media at the University of Lethbridge, qualifications she would need for her dream job of being an animator at Pixar. Her father, Ashok, stayed behind in Malaysia to run the family’s textile business.Policy for investmentDr. Nathaniel Lupton investigates what either attracts or deters investment from multinational enterprises. It’s a nuanced line of investigation – one that can determine the long-term economic viability of nations everywhere, not to mention the social climate of the people who call those places home. Examining the corporate-charity linkDr. Gloria Tian, together with Dr. Ebenezer Asem, and Dr. Olubunmi Faleye (Northeastern Univeristy), have been awarded an Insight Grant through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council worth almost $95,000 over four years to investigate the impact of corporate-charity connections in Canada. Thriving in crisisDr YJ Bao and his colleagues have turned their research toward the area of crisis management – decision making under extreme conditions – with a specialization in Chinese corporations. Bao’s findings in the field of crisis management have been published in a variety of academic journals, including the Journal of Management. Rob Crow (MSc '04)Rob Crow (MSc '04), Blood Tribe Economic Development, was recently awarded the Cando (Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers) Economic Developer of the Year award (individual). Paije Ottoson (BMgt/BEd '04)Paije Ottoson answers, What makes you shine? She shares the inspiration behind Smudge Art Studio Inc. which is inspiring artists of all ages and has attracted many accolades. Lyle Rouleau (BMgt '89)To be recognized by Wealth Professional Magazine as one of Canada’s best financial advisors even once is an impressive feat, but Lyle Rouleau (BMgt ’89) has done it three times in as many years. Faculty of Management 35th Anniversary CelebrationPresented by the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours", we invite you to join us on November 24th for an evening celebrating the Faculty's 35th Anniversary. The event will take place in Markin Hall from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and include hors d'oeuvrs & refreshments. There will be a short formal program to highlight our history and look toward our future with a mix and mingle to follow.
