Network, Recruit, and Retain!
Join the Oceanside Division of Family Practice for an interactive evening to find out what is happening in the areas of recruitment and retention - we know that for family physicians, one of your greatest areas of concern is how we can get - and keep - our area's healthcare providers. We will talk about the residency program, practice coverage, area locums, and get the opportunity to meet some of Oceanside's newest physicians - many of whom you may not already know!
Join us in the Beach Club's lovely Sand Dollar Room for dinner, updates on Recruitment and Retention and the Perfect Storm group, and get a chance to "Speed-Date" our newest healthcare providers.
Thu, 2 February 2017
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
The Beach Club Resort, Parksville
The Oceanside Division of Family Practice is looking for physician leads and interested members to form a working group to lead the Division's activities and efforts around recruitment and retention - without members providing their input and leadership, there is little that can be done to make improvements in these areas - be a part of the solution!
A 2 hour sessional fee is payable for attendance to this event. As at the AGM, there will be a door prize up for grabs.
Please RSVP via the Event invite or email Amber Hanscomb to be added!

Snaw-Naw-As Health Centre
We have just passed the one year mark since starting physician services at the Snaw-Naw-As Health Centre in Nanoose. It is going quite well, with a group of four GP’s rotating through the centre each week, providing sessionally funded care to Snaw-Naw-As members for two sessions each week. In addition, we have family medicine residents providing care for one or two days each week as well as a NP one day each week. This is in the context of a multidisciplinary team that provides further support to the community.
As we move forward this year, I am hoping that we can build a stronger relationship between the Snaw-Naw-As Nation and the Oceanside Division of Family Practice and the Oceanside Health Centre. Currently, almost all community members seek after hours care at the NRGH ED. My hope is that the Oceanside Health Centre can become their primary after hours centre, when appropriate. In addition, having the members aware of the other services available through the Oceanside Health Centre would be of benefit.
I would like to see a physician from the Oceanside area brought into our physician group to begin building this relationship. We will likely be having one of our four physicians leaving the group to start up another clinic on the Snuneymuxw Nation within the next couple of months.
Are you aware of any physicians within the Oceanside community that may be interested or would you like to meet to discuss further? Also, if you have any suggestions or thoughts on how to build a relationship between these communities, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. I hope everyone had a great weekend and a good start to 2017.

Question: “Can I get this CT done faster somewhere else?”
As the result of a one-year project initiated by Primary Care Informatics Committee (PCI) in partnership with Island Health, physicians can now know the duration of time patients wait for medical imaging at each site and for each modality on Vancouver Island. This data is available from their offices after a single login. As with all PCI work, it is intended to improve access to information pertinent for patient care in the community. The result is a first for British Columbia. This was possible through a collaborative effort between members of Medical Imaging, Communications and Medical Quality Improvement departments who immediately saw value in the project and worked enthusiastically to make it a reality.
Use this link to access VIHA imaging wait times
You will need the same username and password as for PowerChart*.
The link is also available through PCI web site and Pathways for those in Victoria/Saanich.
