A host of experts from the region and beyond debated the issues related to disruptive technologies and the challenges and opportunities which these pose to regulators. You can read my summary of the event by clicking the link above. Time spent at an IIC event is time well spent, and that is especially true of Communications Policy and Regulation Week, which takes place in a little over two weeks’ time, from 8-11 October. Chris Chapman, President of the IIC, and delegates talk about why attending IIC events is beneficial to them and their organisations. CPR Week brings experts together from all over the world, plus senior regulators and industry figures. Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will be speaking at both the International Regulators’ Forum and the Annual Conference. Salma Jalife, the Vice Minister-designate for ICT for the new Mexican administration is also speaking, as is Carlos Sánchez, Chief Technology Officer for AT&T Mexico, and a host of other senior experts from within the region and beyond. You can still register your place here, but time is running out to add your voice to the conversation. Digital platforms continue to dominate the policy and regulatory conversation, so naturally we continue that discussion in our events, including CPR Week. Our Q&A this month is from Prof Madeleine de Cock Buning, Chair of the High Level Expert Group which advises the European Commission on fake news and online disinformation. Our latest open-access InterMedia article is Terry Flew’s piece, Platforms on Trial, which examines the challenges faced by digital platforms about the content they carry. IIC President, Chris Chapman and I have both written blog posts on the topic, which you can read below. And in December, Lee Rainie from Pew Research Center will present Pew’s latest research on Big Tech, Trust, Facts and Democracy at our TMF in Washington DC. Whichever part of the TMT world you inhabit, this issue affects us all, and the IIC will continue to facilitate debate and the sharing of best practice and information on the topic into 2019 and beyond. We hope to see you at a meeting very soon.
