Many CEOs, Chief Digital Officers and CIOs were there to listen to our guest speakers: Carlo d’Asaro Biondo - President of EMEA Partnerships at Google Europe, François Barrault - Chairman of Digiworld Idate, Valetine de Lasteyrie - Director of Investment at the Family Office and Véronique Forge, Founder and Chief Editor at Business O’Feminin and our moderator for the evening. His Excellency Lord Llewellyn - British Ambassador to France, opened-up the evening with a warm welcome to his residence. He then referred to the recent Franco-British summit and reiterated the commitment to a shared future in Europe and the digital link between our countries. Before the debate began, Philipe Arraou – President BDO set the scene and drew a complete picture of digital trends, from Artificial Intelligence to the Internet of Things and from Big Data to Blockchain. As the debate began, all panellists agreed that digital technology has the potential to bring economic growth. This fundamental belief laid the foundation for further discussion, with themes such as Artificial Intelligence and the extent to which knowledge should be shared among competitors. Further points of discussion included the investment into new digital technologies, potential changes this would create in the structure of the current job market and the urgency to train and welcome more women into this expanding industry. The questions from the floor illustrated the attendee’s interest for digital transformation and how insightful and thought-provoking the discussion was. Guests prolonged the discussions around drinks in the beautiful salons of the Embassy, before leaving with a complimentary copy of The Economist, courtesy of our member. We would like to thank again all our sponsors, speakers, members and guests, and Embassy staff for making the evening such a success. NEW MEMBERS MyComm UPCOMING EVENTS SME BREAKFAST AT THE FRANCO-BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ON TUESDAY 6th MARCH 2018 FROM 09:00-11:00 The SME breakfast is an ideal networking opportunity for all small and medium business owners looking to exchange ideas, discuss challenges and find solutions in the form of a round table breakfast event.
LEGAL MATTERS THE FRY GROUP - INHERITANCE TAX REVIEW Inheritance Tax (IHT) is a complex business. Although the additional allowances introduced in April 2017 (known as the property Nil Rate Band) will prove advantageous to many, ensuring that the benefits are enjoyed is only likely for those who have planned carefully. Presently, what the review is set to contain remains general; with a proposed focus on technical and administrative matters, routine estate planning and disclosure, and the role of gifting, transfer and investment decisions. What is clear however, is that there is huge potential for simplification of the IHT system, although this may take time to be fulfilled. if you are unsure about your current position or have any questions about how the review may affect your estate planning, then please do contact the Fry Group directly on the link below.
