Historical Museum-A Worthwhile TourAt the 2021 Spring Fellowship, I was given the wonderful opportunity to tour the continually updated Historical Museum. I have been a member of the Order of the Arrow for several years, but a brother of Tsoiotsi Tsogalii lodge for a short time. I knew that given this opportunity, I could learn and gain insight into the past of Tsoiotsi Tsogalii lodge. One key piece of information that I learned at the museum was that in the past, Tsoiotsi Tsogalii was at one time three different lodges: Tslagi, Uwharrie, and Tali Tak Taki. In the early 1990’s, Uwharrie and Tali Tak Taki lodges merged to become Keyauwee lodge. Later, Tslagi lodge merged with Keyauwee to became what we now know as Tsoiotsi Tsogalii lodge. Since there were three lodge traditions and histories feeding into this merger, it was decided that the name should reflect the three lodges. So the name in Cherokee was born: Tsoiotsi Tsogalii which translated means "we three are friends". The museum also amazed me by how many different artifacts collected throughout the years. There were walls made of entire patches, and antique books and papers going back to the early 1900s. The best part was that I was able to interact and examine so many pieces of the past. There was more than just our lodge’s past. There were many Scouting artifacts, like old-world Jamboree items, a giant wooden sign from the ’30s, flags, and many more items than I expected. I also had the opportunity to read about the different camps of the past. I noted how one of the past councils would use old retired buses to house many of the scouts at various events. The museum is ready for all to learn and explore the wonders of the past. I would highly recommend checking it out, especially if you’re a patch fanatic. The museum is constantly updated to keep all of the records present and it is well organized. If you are curious feel free to check it out, the museum is located in the basement of the OA building. Also, you can read and learn about the past of Tsoiotsi Tsogalii by checking out our History page on the website: https://lodge70.org/history/ Regards, Camdon R. VC Communications.
