Numeracy Workshop

NEAS was proud to host a numeracy workshop for AMEP teachers delivered by Dr Keiko Yasukawa in February. The workshop was well attended by 37 AMEP teachers from all corners of Australia, eager to know how they can integrate numeracy into their teaching. Feedback from the day shows there is a keen interest in similar workshops that not only look at the delivery of numeracy topics, but also assessment strategies.

NEAS would like to thank Keiko for her generous support of the AMEP community and giving her time and expertise to the workshop.

New tasks

Some new goodies for you:

• C2N1 Kitchenhand Job
• C2N1 Cleaning Job
• C2C1 The Washing Machine
• CPC1 Letters Numbers and Personal Information
• CPC2 Letters Numbers and Personal Information
• CPD1 Letters Numbers and Personal Information
• CPD2 Letters Numbers and Personal Information
• CPH1 Letters Numbers and Personal Information
• CPH2 Letters Numbers and Personal Information
• C1M1 Additional and Subtraction With Decimal Whole Numbers
• C1M2 Additional and Subtraction With Decimal Whole Numbers
• C1M3 Additional and Subtraction With Decimal Whole Numbers

We are pleased to include some examples of tasks that co-assess multiple learning outcomes. You will note that Additional and Subtraction With Decimal Whole Numbers can be used to assess all learning outcomes associated with Module M in Certificate I CSWE, and Letters Numbers and Personal Information can be used to assess all learning outcomes in Modules C, D, and H. Both tasks include mapping so if you want to use the task to only assess some of these learning outcomes, you can see what questions are required against the learning outcomes you wish to assess. It is hoped that co-assessment is one way you might be able to reduce the assessment burden for your students and the administrative burden for yourselves.

Thank you to all of the teachers who contributed these tasks.

National Working Group Workshop

The National Working Group met for their annual workshop in February for two days of professional development, networking and validation.

There was a huge mountain of tasks validated and we have made a good dent in the Learning outcomes that don’t have any tasks associated with them. But I am still on the hunt.

I would like to thank all members of the National Working Group who came to Sydney for the workshop. It is always a pleasure to have you together and I trust you got some value from working with your colleagues.

ATB Intern

NEAS are offering the opportunity for a TESOL student to undertake an internship with us, working on the ATB. We are looking for someone who would be available for one day per week, currently studying a postgraduate qualification in TESOL and is looking to work long term in AMEP. While we are based in Sydney, it isn’t necessary for the intern to be based in Sydney.

If you know of a current TESOL student who would like to develop in depth knowledge and skills in language assessment, please ask them to email us atb@neas.org.au with an expression of interest.
