This month I speak to Heidi Romano who has 25 years of experience shaping bold visual narratives across design and photography. Known for her modern, minimalist approach, she creates brand identities, books, and exhibitions that uncover the unique story behind every project.

Her career spans award-winning photobooks, major exhibitions for LensCulture, and founding Unless You Will, one of the first online magazines celebrating global photography talent. In her talk, Heidi explores how powerful storytelling—and a touch of rebellion—can transform creative work.

Plan B Website Build

Brand new website for well travelled and experienced photographer Nick Orloff of Plan B Photography. Nick had an existing site that was a little untidy, a website rebuild a great opportunity to review and refresh. The new site still contains some of Nick’s ongoing projects that he can now add to very simply with a minimum of fuss. The new WordPress responsive website features a full screen image gallery on the home page, and includes a number of galleries that let the user see an overview of images or select a larger or full screen version to view. Good Design Award Winner

Congratulations to Stef King on her recent project she worked on titled “‘This is Manly.” The campaign takes a creative, youth-led approach to primary prevention. Co-designed by young people, the campaign challenges gender stereotypes, amplifies positive male role models, and redefines what it means to be ‘manly’ through social media vox-pop style storytelling and bold visual messaging across the streets of Perth.

Mana Yoga Retreat Photoshoot

Italy swept me up with its light, art, flavour and feeling, an experience that will stay with me forever. I travelled first to Florence, wandering at sunrise along the Arno and through the Uffizi, before heading south to capture a yoga and cultural retreat in Tuscany. At Le Pianore, an organic farm run by the generous Micillo family, I immersed myself in their vineyard, olive groves, paddock-to-plate meals and the quiet beauty of Monticello.

The retreat, created by Patty from Mana Yoga, became both a creative collaboration and a personal journey, producing a series of images that celebrate women’s wellness and strength. After Tuscany, I spent time alone in Monterosso, soaking in the sea, food, friends and the romance of Cinque Terre.

Italy reminded me to slow down, breathe and let moments linger. I will return, because some places stay with you long after you leave.

A much-loved strip of sticky carpet had been yuppified.
A broad grin came in from the blinding daylight.
“You here for the advertising lunch?” asked Lynchy.
Not that I knew him as that yet.
I nodded and replied. “This place has changed.”
He took in the pink and grey tiles. “Tell me about it.”
Common ground had been found.
Introductions followed. I’d just started at O&M.
He’d just ditched managing bands to start a mag.
“I’m calling it Campaign Brief. It’s for creatives, not suits.”
“Reckon you’re onto something. Beer?”
While a lot in advertising has changed since then,
it’s still about people and ideas.
People you click with and people you argue ideas with.
Beautifully simple ideas that speak to people.
That’s what it’s always been about.

That’s what I’ll always be about.
