Principal Message

These are unprecedented times, with the effects of drought, bushfire and now coronavirus having a significant impact on all of us. I know that many people are concerned about conflicting messages about COVID-19 and that many of you are worried about your children and families.

In light of the current health pandemic and the need for self-isolation, I understand some students cannot currently attend school. I respect this decision and appreciate each family’s personal situation.

Our families should be confident that decisions have been and will be made regarding the impact of COVID-19 on our school community are based on the concern and compassion for every person.

Message from Executive Principal Hastings Secondary College - Ian Ross

I personally would like thank all of our families and students who are working in supermarkets, chemists and others retail suppliers and in the medical and health care professions who are dealing with unprecedented demands.

I have been overwhelmed by how the staff at Hastings Secondary College have pulled together. They have been working hard to support our students.

  1. Keep calm – there are lots of things outside our control. Let’s remember to focus on what really matters. Hastings Secondary College will continue to focus on being a calm place where our students feel they belong and can learn.
  2. Be kind – we are all in this together. Reach out to help others who may be in need. Know that nearly everyone is feeling stressed and when we are on edge, we can be sharp when we do not mean to be.

Below is a message with specific advice from our school counsellors for you as a parent and carer.

Online Learning

Hastings Secondary College is operational. For students who are currently absent from their campus or in self isolation we have an online model to support our student learning.

Teachers are currently creating resources for students to use in a variety of modes;  this includes booklets of work, online learning links and direct contact via email. These resources focus on improving Literacy and Numeracy and will be updated regularly.

The intention is that students work through the activities. The links can be used as a self paced learning or to facilitate current assessment tasks which students are encouraged to continue working on.
