Dear Students: 

I understand the pain, anger and frustration you are feeling from the many emails I received and read today. I would like to clarify why BCPD officers on bicycles were present at the protest at Franklin Park last evening.

For years, police officers at Boston College and other area colleges and universities have responded to requests to assist Boston Police during major events such as demonstrations and the Boston Marathon. Yesterday, in response to a request, BC Police sent three officers on bicycles to assist with traffic and crowd control and to help ensure public safety at the protest at Franklin Park. They were joined by officers from several area schools. The protest was peaceful and without incident.   

Please stay safe while you are exercising your right to peacefully protest.
