Dear Parents and Carers I trust you are all safely navigating the current restrictions and taking time to manage your own health and wellbeing. As you are already aware, stay at home orders in place for regional NSW have be extended by two weeks, until at least 11.59 pm on 10 September. The Minister of Education has announced a plan for the return to face to face teaching and learning. If the stay-at-home orders in Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA are lifted before the end of Term 3, we can expect our students and staff to return to school at Level 3 Covid-safe conditions. Please refer to the table at the conclusion of my message for information relating to Level 3. Additionally, a Public Health Order has been announced. This Order mandates that all teachers, regardless of sector, be vaccinated by 8 November. This is the same as the health order for aged care, health and early childhood workers. I trust this news will reassure you that schools are safe. I would like to thank our teachers for their ongoing incredible work to support our College community. In these unnerving times, they have provided our students – and one another – with remarkable support in keeping with our trademark of determination and generosity of spirit.

Everything is a little topsy-turvy right now, because COVID-19 and lockdown orders to stay at home. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed by it all, be reassured that this is a very normal response. However, it’s important to go easy on yourself and to take time for self-care. Wellbeing Wednesday is all about setting up your routines for the week, to take time out and enjoy some time away from the screen. Take a video (up to 30 seconds), a photograph or ticktoc showing how you are looking after yourself both mentally and physically during lockdown orders. You can choose to do this online with a group of friends or you can do individually. Whether it is your favourite exercise, decluttering your room, playing with your pets, gardening, dancing or your favourite hobby - share away and help someone smile today. The last Friday of August each year is Wear It Purple Day. And like other wonderfully purple things (Cadbury’s chocolate-bar wrappers, grape-flavoured Hubba Bubba and Prince circa 1984, to name a few), it's pretty special. Start the Conversation - Happy Wear it Purple Day from our student leaders at Hastings Secondary College.
