Our third BiteSize Newsletter provides a snapshot of a few things that are new at Top 100 Golf Courses. Much has changed in the last month and many reviews have been posted, including one that comprehensively questions our current world No.1 course – Pine Valley

Big name golf course architects vie for dominance in Vietnam

Big name course architects are attracting much of the limelight, with the design companies of Greg Norman, Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie all jockeying for position when it comes to unveiling top-end courses. We’ve now adjusted our Vietnamese Top 10 rankings in an attempt to keep up with what’s going on in a very fast-moving golfing environment.

Golfing on the Côte d'Azur

Our Editor needed no persuading when invited to the French Riviera for the Cannes EGTMA Golf Week. Unfortunately, the opportunity to play Prince de Provence was scuppered due to the course undergoing an extensive upgrade. However, our Editor did walk the course, and saw enough of the layout to realise that this property (once owned by Robert Trent Jones) should climb higher in future rankings.

Confidential Guide revealed – a Scottish perspective on Tom Doak’s new book

The original Confidential Guide first appeared in 1988, when 53 of the layouts assessed by Tom Doak were located in Scotland. The new revised edition of the book almost doubles the number of courses that lie to the north of the border with England, adding all the top courses that have opened for business in the last quarter of a century, with three glaring exceptions.

Golf on the sun-kissed Indian Ocean island of Mauritius

The European Tour’s Race to Dubai ends this week, but the European Senior Tour lasts a little longer when the traditional end of season MCB Tour Championship takes place in Mauritius next month. We therefore felt we should announce our biennial reappraisal of courses in Mauritius to reflect what’s been happening on the golfing front there over the last couple of years.
