NOTICES:
Safety of our Students: It is important for the safety of our students and local residents that all parents who drive to school in the mornings and afternoons are adhering to the road rules. We ask you all to consider the following: Do not speed on our surrounding roads as many families walk to and from school and this compromises their safety.
Do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of the school as this impacts on our students safely crossing the road.
Do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, as this will disrupt access to their private property. As a school we suggest walking or catching public transport to school to where possible. If you have to drive, there is often ample parking spaces a little further away from the school, which may also alleviate the congestion and stress of the morning. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter and your consideration of our local community.
Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day. The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning. Reminder to Parents No bicycles or scooters are to be ridden in the school gates, this includes when coming to collect from after school clubs. No climbing is permitted on the bicycle racks. Lunch boxes! Please remember that our school is nut free, therefore any products containing nuts (peanut butter, breakfast bars etc) cannot be sent in to school for packed lunch or to the breakfast club. It is important that we are vigilant around this issue as we have staff and students with allergies to nuts. Uniform From time to time a piece of uniform (jumper, cardigan, tie) might be misplaced or left in the lunch hall. It is important that you clearly label all items of uniform so that when they are found we can return them to you promptly. Any pieces without names go directly to lost property.
'Calcio Pie'This week in Reception, we have started to learn our poem 'Calico Pie' that we will be performing at the Stratford Circus in a few weeks time. We have been focussing on rhyming words and learning a lot of new vocabulary, as well as starting to hear and write the initial sounds in words.Of course, we are continuing to settle in, make friends and get used to the rules and routines of school and love talking to our families about everything that we have been doing each day!
Where do I come from? This week Year 1 applied their knowledge of habitats to the characters in the poem 'The Owl and the Pussycat'. We looked at different images and linked them to the owl, pig, turkey and the pussycat. We matched pictures of real farm settings, feathers, cat beds, food and trees to the correct animals in the poem. To be
successful we had to work with our table group to come to a shared agreement, so we've been working on our teamwork skills too!
Puppet Performances! This week Year 2 visitied the Horniman Museum in South East London as part of our project learning. We took part in a workshop about puppets from around the world. We looked at finger puppets, hand puppets, string puppets, stick puppets and shadow puppets! We learnt that puppet performances aren't just for children - a lot of
adults enjoy puppet performances all over the world! We were able to have a go on the different types of puppets and tell our own stories. This experience was brilliant for us to start thinking about the marionette puppet we will be making next week. After the puppetry workshop, we had a lovely walk around the museum grounds and looked at the different galleries.
Museum Of ChildhoodThis week Year 3 attended a Drama and puppet workshop at the Museum of Childhood. We learned all about how to use shadow puppets and where they came from in order to tell our story of The Highwayman in our project.
Mysterious TravellerThis week, Year 4 have been deepening their understanding of the mysterious traveller from our poem, 'The Listeners' by Walter de la Mare. At the beginning of the week, we answered complex questions in our table groups about the traveller and used cubes to guide our discussions. A different coloured cube represented the
following points: building on to somebody else's contribution, challenging someone else, asking clarifying questions and probing questions. We then took all of our different ideas and wrote the traveller's backstory.
Hot Choc Friday Hot Choc Friday winners for going 'Above and Beyond' this week were: Zipi, Bella, Salma, Joshua and Ruaibah.
Well done to our amazing students who are setting examples to others!
