NOW OPEN!The new playground at Strathfield Park was officially opened at the Spring Festival on Saturday! The adventure wonderland is 2,225 square metres and features equipment and activities for a variety of ages and abilities. Kids can slide, jump, fly and swing, using their imaginations and enjoying the outdoors. The Strathfield Park playground is one of 25 playgrounds that will be upgraded in the Strathfield LGA in the coming year, so there is plenty of opportunity for adventure and play in Strathfield! Strathfield Park The stage has been returned, the marquees packed away and now it’s time to officially farewell the 2017 Strathfield Spring Festival. Over 30,000 attendees enjoyed performances from Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band, DreamWorks Trolls, In Stereo and an array of community groups. The new playground which was opened in the morning kept families entertained until sundown. Thank you to everyone who visited and we hope to see you at other Strathfield Council events! Kathie John – Governance OfficerI have been working at Strathfield Council for 9 years, which has given me a unique insight into Local Government. One of my responsibilities is processing GIPA requests. GIPA stands for Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (the GIPA Act) and allows members of the public to request copies of government documents. These include information about Council, plans and policies, development applications, approvals and orders. It’s important these documents are freely accessible to the public and an important way for the community to be involved with Council. For more information click here. Movies in the Park is back again for the 2017 – 2018 season! Join us at Strathfield Park for the latest box office hits under the stars. Bring a blanket, a picnic – anything you need to enjoy your night of fun and entertainment with family and friends. First up is TROLLS (PG) - After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Anna Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly-cautious curmudgeonly Branch (Justin Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Together, this mismatched duo embarks on a rescue mission full of adventure and mishaps – trying to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done. Please click here for a full list of movies for this season. School Holidays are just around the corner so register your child now for our exciting School Holiday Program! The sessions are suitable for children aged 5-12 years and include dancing, visual illusions, art and science! Did you know Australia has over 1,000 species of Wattle? You can help promote this species and other native flora by planting local indigenous trees and shrubs in your backyard. It will also help the native fauna, such as small indigenous birds. For advice on planting and to organise to visit our Nursery, call Council on 9748 9999 or email nursery@strathfield.nsw.gov.au Redmyre Road – 1959 Road ConstructionThe photo below shows the road and kerb construction on Strathfield’s iconic Redmyre Road in 1959, which is a heritage conservation area and most of the buildings have not altered since this time. The Brush Box (Lophostemon confertus) street trees are well established and remain a significant feature of the streetscape of Redmyre Road. Image and words courtesy of Cathy Jones.
