The Burien project will be the first DESC housing built outside of the city of Seattle. The council also amended the measure to require an interlocal agreement (ILA) between Burien and King County (or the Regional Homelessness Authority). The ILA aims to ensure that 30 percent of the people housed in the new building come from Burien. We are happy to participate in this effort, and think that we can help make this happen. The project, at 801 SW 150th Street in Burien, will create much-needed stable supportive housing for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness, including 25 units set aside for veterans. We look forward to continuing to develop relationships in Burien and to being good neighbors for years to come! We continue to observe precautions, test clients and staff as needed and vaccinate clients, staff and others who come to clinics. Thanks to testing and documentation, we know that as of Wednesday, June 30, 237 DESC clients and 76 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 since March 2020. Grant pays for more vaccination clinics this summer DESC also received a $25,000 grant to support vaccine clinics from All in Washington, the statewide pandemic response fund managed by the Seattle Foundation. The grant will pay for expenses for 10 vaccine clinics, including PPE, sharps containers, educational materials and harm reduction supplies. As vaccinations ease the pandemic, and Washington state returns to a more normal life, DESC is working hard to find and prepare places for our temporary guests to go from their pandemic emergency shelter at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall and the Renton hotel shelter.
