Year 7 iPads Update We have finally had an update from the supplier of cases! Please keep an eye on your emails this week as we will send out information packs as soon as the portal is open for orders. Many thanks for your ongoing patience in this matter!
Please see Middle School After School Clubs Timetable below:
Year 8 create some revolting peasants! This week in projects the Year 8 group learning about the Peasants' Revolt created their own chess-style inspired figures that represent the levels of the Feudal System. They made kings, nobles, knights and peasants complete with pitchforks and torches, septres and swords! Tomorrow we have a walking tour of the area in which the revolt took place - all building up to create our rap battle to answer the question 'What really happened during the Peasants' Revolt of 1381?'
Kevin & Elizabeth at Big Change
Last week Elizabeth and Kevin in Year 8 were invited along to the Big Change Event held at The Tabernacle performing arts venue in Notting Hill. They went along and listened to speakers talk about how their organisations were creating change for young people in the world - including lots of mentions for School 21! They also got to see Princess Beatrice compare the opening of the event. Thanks to both students for coming back into school and making the big journey late at night and for being representatives of School 21!
More Green Star Winners... plus our first Red Stars!
This week we've welcomed our most recent 23 Green Star winners: Joshua (Y5), Nicolas, Rome, Zoe, Amina (Y6), Emre, Mimi, Ryan (Y6), Sophie, Aaishah, Abdi, Amina (Y7), Jessica, Munir, Ria, Selena, Temi, Ariyan, Daria, Lili'Mai, Nebil, Sion and Smilte. No one else has reached Red as yet... who will be next? It was good to see lots of students in Years 7 and 8 reach their first milestone. There are many other students across the school who are very close as well - next week we could have even more! Recognition milestones are only known by Ms Kyrk. Teachers and students do not know how many times names must be added to our recognition board so that reaching the board avoids becoming tokenistic. Students find out they have reached a
milestone at our Monday Morning Meet Up - a whole school assembly that sets up the Middle School for the week and recognises achievements. There are many colours of badges to earn throughout the year. The name boards are shared at the bottom of each newsletter - scroll down to see this week's!
We have a shortage of Green Star badges this week - as soon as the new order arrives, they will be delivered to students!
Racetrack Superstars! The Maths in Motion project motored on this week with Ms McLear's racing crew! The students are developing their expertise in mastering the maths and programming needed to create the perfect race-ready virtual car. Ahmed's face as Zuhyar won the race is priceless! There will be opportunity for other students to join this project as the year goes on.
Year 7 Digestive Science! This half term in Year 7 science, students are learning all about plant and animal cells, then building on this knowledge by looking at the digestive system and how food is used by the body to power our cells so we function! This week we made class examples of the digestive system, creating our own poo after sending food through potato masher teeth, plastic pipe oesophagus', zip-lock bag stomachs garbage-bag rectums. We also created our own models of the digestive system using plasticine! See some of the examples below.
Student Safety Workshop This week a letter a letter will be sent home with details of a Student Safety workshop that Mr Coogan (Head of Standards 4-18) and Ms Kyrk will be collaboratively running. This workshop aims to inform parents of the strategies the school has put in place to support student safety and will share information about the partnerships and opportunities School 21 offers our students and the wider community on this issue. We also welcome feedback and suggestions from our families. The workshop will run on Thursday 28th November from 5:15pm - 6:00pm. If you would like to attend this session, please RSVP by clicking on this link.
Anti-Bullying Week / Diana Award Training Six of our staff were nominated for Anti-Bulling Ambassador Awards by the students of Middle School and last week the certificates came through. Congratulations to Ms Bannis, Ms Ejvet, Ms Freed, Ms Kyrk and Ms Silvain who were all recognised by students.
Coming up this week is a full day training session for selected Year 7 and 8 students as part of the Diana Award. A training day for Year 5 and 6 students will follow shortly. During these session, students will build their knowledge and confidence surrounding identifying bullying, supporting their peers, celebrating difference and building campaigns centered around diversity and inclusion. Watch this space for further updates.

Dear Parents/Carers, School 21 have recently registered with the Easy Fundraising platform. This platform allows us to turn everyday online shopping into donations for the school which can then be spent on equipment and facilities. If you’d like to help make this happen (at no cost to you!), we ask that you do two things: 1. Sign up to Easy Fundraising and register School 21 as your cause of choice here: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/invite/GO6EW2/. (We get a £5 donation for every person that
signs up via that link!). 2. Install the donation reminder on your computer: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/donation-reminder/. This is a totally unobtrusive button that sits on your internet bar, and pops up with a subtle reminder every time you shop with a retailer that donates to us. Finally, if you're happy to, please share with any family and friends. Thanks so much All at School 21

School Lunches A reminder that Year 5 and 6 students continue to receive free school lunches as part of the Mayor of Newham's initiative, however, when students start Year 7 they must pay for their school lunches through your Parent Pay account. A letter was sent again last week regarding this, including how to sign up through the Newham website if you feel you are eligible for Free School Meals.
The letter is available again by clicking here.
All families can sign up for Free School Meals (if eligible) at any time; it is advisable that current Year 6 parents look into doing so this year to avoid delays when their child starts Year 7.
If your account runs out of funds, students are to visit Ms Nandra in E1 at lunch time - she will support students to get their lunch that day, and will contact parents to remind them to top up the account. Please note, we are unable to keep providing lunch for your child if the balance is still negative.
If you have any questions or require any support to sign up for Free School Meals, please contact Ms Nandra through the front reception or via email at rnandra@school21.org.uk.
Update your Child's Walking Home Alone Permission All Year 5 and 6 students whose parents give permission for them to travel home alone must complete the online permission form sent home earlier this week. The link for doing so is available again here. Please note that students will not be permitted to walk home unless this permission has been received. If you have any problems completing the form, please contact the front reception for support. Please also remember that
if someone who is not the regular adult collects your child, they must give the password for collection. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Middle School Homework This year all of our 12 coaching groups / classrooms have their own Google Classroom set up. All home learning tasks will be set through these online portals. Parents are warmly invited to sign up as guardians on these classrooms; this will give you the opportunity to see all the tasks set for your child so you can keep up to date and support them at home.
