Click here Dear Friend of PLC School Holiday ToursSchool tours are an important part of PLC’s commitment to delivering a well-rounded educational experience that builds girls’ confidence and empowers our students to make an active contribution to the community. As an International Baccalaureate school, our tour programmes are designed to expose our students to a range of different cultures and to engage with people in an increasingly global world. These school holidays, we have a large number of staff and students, from Years 9 to 12, undertaking tours in the Kimberley, Ningaloo, Canberra and Italy. We wish them all the best as they embark on these wonderful social and cultural experiences, which can often be life-changing, and certainly eye-opening. I am confident the girls will enjoy sharing these experiences with their peers and will make the most of their unique learning opportunities outside the classroom. Staff FarewellsAs at the end of every term, there are always a number of staff to whom we say farewell. A very sincere thank you is extended to the following staff members for their contributions and commitment to PLC. Jessica Bray - Boarding House Year Group Co-ordinator Our best wishes are also extended to Head of LOTE, Kelly Barron and Boarding House Year Group Co-ordinator, Joanna Gray, who will both commence parental leave. I also hope the following staff members enjoy their well-deserved long service next term: Jenny Rickwood – Deputy Head of Junior School – Teaching and Learning Thank YouTo all of our families, please enjoy the down time the upcoming three-week break presents to you and your daughters. For those going away, I wish you safe travels. Finally, I would like to thank the PLC community for your support while I have been Acting Principal these past few weeks. I am particularly looking forward to working with Cate Begbie when she starts as Principal next term. - Dr Andrew Cousins, Acting Principal Last Day of Term 2Date: Friday 5 July (normal dismissal times) School HolidaysDate: Saturday 6 July - Monday 29 July Term 3 CommencesDate: Tuesday 30 July (Week B) PLC and Scotch College Present FootlooseDate: Thursday 15 August - Saturday 17 August Senior School Arts DayDate: Thursday 22 August Mid-Term BreakDate: Friday 23 August - Monday 26 August Please note that all parent events are listed in the Communications & Engagement section of Links. "At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child, a parent."- Barbara Bush How Would We Be Remembered?Raising a family has never been easy, but the current expectations seem to make it even more challenging. A generation or two ago, families would share times where they would laugh, share stories and interact with one another. In the 21st century, life has become a lot more challenging as the pace seemingly never slows down, with social media, emails, texts and mobile calls. We expect immediate responses and satisfaction – people need to be reachable up to the point where families find it difficult to have a meal together without being interrupted by technology. This impacts the way we live and love and it’s impacting our vacation time too! When we arrive at our destination, we have to find Wi-Fi or other means to stay connected and run the risk of still not engaging with our loved ones. We even stream our favourite sport or TV series, so we won’t miss a moment. Perhaps we need to take a long and hard look at our priorities and consider how we’d like to be remembered. What is our measure of success: being successful at our careers, or being revered by our families? We have only a fleeting moment to impact our children – let’s not allow this opportunity to pass us by. - Rev Manie Strydom, Chaplain Junior and Senior School Term 2 Appeals“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Thank you to all the students and families who generously donated to UnitingCare West and Australian Red Cross as part of the Winter Appeal. Your donations will assist people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, refugees and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, in their Kwinana garden project. - Linda Malone, Head of Service and Community Partnerships Holiday Movie MakingThe July holidays will provide the school community with an opportunity to recharge for a fantastic Semester 2. I know sometimes children like a ‘project’ to work on, as the long school-less days take hold. Therefore, at Assembly last week, I launched a 30 second STEM Movie-Making Competition. I have emailed information to students, but details can also be found on Seesaw. This project is by no means required, but could be a fun way to spend time during the holidays. Boredom should not be feared during the break. When children are bored, they can be at their most creative. If you remember your own childhood, holidays were rarely times of constant stimulation and it was generally us (the children) who had to come up with the entertainment. Staff Long Service LeaveWe have two staff going on Long Service Leave during Semester 2; Amelia Turner (Kindergarten Education Assistant) will be on leave for the whole of Term 3. I hope Amelia has a lovely time while away. Jennifer Rickwood will be taking leave for all of Semester 2. Jenny has been such an integral member of the Junior School staff and leadership for a long time and we wish her all the best for this well-earned break. Amelia’s role will be covered by Lesley Brady and Ayomi Perera will be the Acting Deputy Head (Teaching and Learning) during Semester 2. Term 3 begins on Tuesday 30 July (on a Week B). I hope you all have a fantastic break and return to school rested and ready to learn in Term 3. - Richard Wright, Head of Junior School Congratulations to our Year 1 girls for reaching 100 days of school this week!
