PWN's goal in opening their network to men is to change their mindset, involve them in discussions on equality between men and women, and encourage them to defend women's rights in the professional arena. The three men appointed are all recognised businessmen and innovators in their respective fields. Notably, Olivier Campenon, who has been the president of the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce since June 2016. UK SPRING BUDGET 2017 8 March 2017, Chancellor Phillip Hammond announced the UK Spring Budget for 2017. He said this budget would accelerate the plan to prepare Britain for a brighter future, providing a strong and stable platform for negotiations on leaving the European Union. Our member, the Fry Group have given a brief overview of the Budget: Perhaps the biggest revelation in the speech was that the dividend allowance of £5,000 which came into being from 6 April 2016, will be cut to £2,000 from 6 April 2018. LAUNCH OF LES VOISINS: THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE IN PARIS The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Paris last week on an official visit with an aim to launch the campaign 'Les Voisins.' This campaign is a celebration of the ties that bind Britain and France. It is fundamentally about people. The stats are impressive: 14 million Brits visit France every year; 18,000 French students study in the UK, 60,000 passengers use the Channel Tunnel each day; 400,000 British and French people have chosen to live on the other side of the Channel. You can find a set of the portraits of British and French people living in France and Britain at lesvoisins.shorthand.com, as well as instructions on how to submit your story and become a Voisin yourself. At the Chamber we were very excited about the visit from their Royal Highnesses, so much so that the French television channel LC1 visited our offices to interview us. See the clip here. Experts agree that it is no longer a case of 'if' but a case of 'when' we will be hacked and whether our details have already been stolen and sold on to criminals without our knowledge. The weakest point is the password. Humans are notoriously bad at passwords. Re-use of the same password is a major problem but so is password strength. Increasingly security conscious systems will measure the quality of your password and not allow you to use it if it is too weak. To strengthen the single security login, the 2-step verification is being more widely used. Looking beyond forgettable and/or forgeable pieces of information is biometrics; which uses a part of your body to identify you. A more complex approach is analysing our behaviour. Major advances have been made in security with the development of the blockchain, that stands to revolutionise our lives, as the Internet did. Another major field is the development of quantum theory based networks that will have, by their very nature, very high levels of security. Contact: Guy Bondonneau SECURITUDE: DON'T GET PHISHED! When we hear about high profile hacking incidents, we usually hear only the juicy details –the millions of stolen passwords, the leaked sensitive emails, or the hospital that had its records encrypted by ransomware. What we don’t hear about is that nine out of ten cases began with an employee opening a phishing email, and clicking on a link within. The way to address this issue is not through technology, it’s by raising awareness and educating your staff about how to detect malicious emails. Here are some basic tips: · Be suspicious of emails demanding immediate action, · Hover your mouse pointer over a link before clicking, and verify the destination, and · Look for obvious spelling mistakes in the email. In case of any doubt as to whether the message is malicious, have your cyber security expert verify any links before clicking. For more information and tips, visit www.securitude.com Today, law and especially European law recognises cyber-attacks as a fact of life and therefore holds companies accountable for not implementing adequate protections and processes to fight against them. For instance, EU Regulation of 27th April 2016, which aims to protect personal data privacy, obligates companies processing data to “implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk”, including pseudonymisation and encryption of personal data, regular tests of technical and organisational measures. Security breaches could have adverse consequences for companies both financially (administrative fines as high as several million euros and/or compensation of the victim) and on their public image since security breaches will have to be notified to the individual from whom data has been compromised. Companies should therefore include cyber security processes to their compliance strategy and provide relevant training to their teams in view of the effective date of the EU Regulation, i.e. May 25th, 2018.
