Kind regards Julie and Mark Directors - EAPworks Looking at the realities...The festive and holiday season is almost upon us and some of us are delighted and excited, and some of us despair and there is every reaction in between! The reality in New Zealand is that our festivities and holiday period comes together at the end of the year when we can be at our most frazzled after a full-on year at work. Christmas also means different things to different people - for some it is a time of meaningful spiritual significance, for others it is a holiday and time with family and friends, and others, would rather pay no heed to it.From our observation, Christmas accentuates how you are feeling - for this who have had sad losses through the year, or are in complex situations, or are alone, it is a very hard time, for the lonely, there is greater loneliness, and for families it can be a time of increased stress - and for others, it is a wonderful time. It is good to think about those around us as we prepare for this time, and there are some things we can do to make it less stressful.Making a planWhen we perceive things to be manageable, we do not experience a stress response. Taking control and making a plan to manage the festive period makes a difference. Thinking through what is important, allocating a time schedule, and establishing a budget to work to can really help. With some planning , we can avoid getting into debt over Christmas..Practice mindfulness over the holiday periodStop... really stop...relax and be..... |
