I'm excited to welcome Marcus Byrne to the Creative Directory!
Regardless of how you feel about it, AI is becoming part of the creative toolkit. That shift can be exciting, intimidating, and occasionally scary, but Marcus has leaned into it, embracing AI's potential to elevate creatives' ideas.
Marcus is an Irish-born, Australian-based creative director and AI specialist with twenty years of agency experience across Leo Burnett, VMLY&R and Thinkerbell. He comes from four generations of makers. A typesetter grandfather. A paste-up artist uncle. A screen-printing Art Director father. And Marcus, who embraced every new tool without ever losing the craft underneath. Every generation faced a new tool, kept an open mind, and adapted. This one is no different. He has learned that the “expert mind” is a liability; the only way forward is to reclaim a Beginner’s Mind, asking the child’s question, “What could this become?”
His belief is simple. Tech doesn’t tell stories. Humans do.

"Living in Australia means anytime you travel overseas, it's likely to be a long haul before arrival. It's just part of life down under, distant from everything, close to nothing.
I happen to be a lucky one, I get on a plane, curl into a ball, and fall asleep before we've left the tarmac. I genuinely love flying, boarding in one country and what seems only a few hours later, stepping out into another. I don't do wifi, movies or meals, I just switch off, landing with feet on the ground, ready for whatever's next."

There are moments in this line of work that feel almost surreal for Kalliroy, like spray painting a trolley bright pink and laughing at the fact that it’s actually part of the job! Set design has truly become a passion for Kalliroy, offering the perfect blend of creative expression and practical problem-solving. She loves being able to tap into her design experience while also getting hands-on, piecing everything together with whatever resources are at her disposal. Collaborating with such talented creatives made this project even more rewarding for Kalliroy, and their expertise played a huge role in bringing the vision to life.
