He mihi nā te HeamanaE aku nui, e aku rahi tēnā koutou katoa. I want to acknowledge the stoic commitment and action from iwi, hapū, and tangata whenua since the start of COVID-19. Mana motuhake was indeed exemplified this year. I also want to thank all of those who make time to attend the hui and support the committee throughout the year. As we look towards increasing resilience in our rohe, these hui enable better dialogue to reaffirm what is important to Māori. To our marae who have hosted us this year, who epitomise manaakitanga, aku whakamiha ki a koutou. Mei kore ake ko koutou, ka kore tātau e tutuki ai ngā mahi. On behalf of my fellow councillors and staff at Toi Moana we hope you enjoy the upcoming summer and have a safe holiday with your whānau and friends. The consent has been publically notified and you can read more about the consent, make a submission or find out more about the submission process. Integrated Catchment’s staff appreciated the time many people and groups have spent over the past year discussing any concerns or questions on the consent. That informal process meant that we could make changes to the consent application before it was submitted. Public submissions will be open until 1 February next year. Te Mana o te Wai: Fresh water management Kāhui Wai Māori have produced a series of videos with the support of Ministry for the Environment. The first video features Dr Mahina-a-Rangi Baker giving an overview about understanding Te Mana o te Wai and what this implies for the upcoming work around Fresh water management. ![]() Rain offers some relief but more needed to keep drought at bay![]() The recent wet weather has seen a respite to the dry in the Bay of Plenty - but not enough to lift dry weather warnings yet. Rainfall recorded since the start of November has exceeded what was recorded for the whole of October and has provided some temporary respite in the soil moisture levels and low river flows across the region. The summer of 2019/2020 saw some of the lowest-ever recorded rainfall and stream flows in the Bay of Plenty and Regional Council is still asking users to plan their water use for this summer.
