During the Second World War, on 26 November 1940, Professor Cleveringa protested against the dismissal of two Jewish colleagues. Leiden University Fund together with the Cleveringa Committees all around the world, yearly organizes Cleveringa meetings to commemorate this famous speech.

In October and November, Leiden University is travelling to China and Indonesia. A number of our staff will be in Beijing, Shanghai, Bandung, Jakarta and Yogyakarta to meet with alumni over dinner and answer questions from prospective students about our University and the programmes we offer.

Alumna Jiahui Jiang (re)translates Dutch children’s books like Jip and Janneke – Yiyi and Yaya – into Chinese. She teaches Dutch at the Communication University of China in Beijing and graduated in Dutch Studies at Leiden.

This is the view presented in an advice paper published by LERU, the League of European Research Universities. The lead author is our Leiden University vice-Rector Simone Buitendijk.

The Leiden University-LEAD Alumni Group from Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) in Bandung organized its FirstNetherlands-IndonesianAlumni Evening of the LEAD Programme in Bandung, Indonesia, which was attended by a large number of alumni (more than 90 guests).
