Must see timelapse film of Melbourne.

Watch this two-minute timelapse video and fall in love with Melbourne — again. It was created by Sam Woosley, 22, from North Carolina, US, while studying photography at RMIT.

"I had cops called on me, was rained off location. I even had a computer crash and lost many shoots. Thankfully, I had most footage on an external drive," he says.

The film was made from 8159 photographs, 88 different timelapses and more than  50 shoots — about 100 hours of work.

Vote now to name our new park

Name Docklands’ newest park

You are invited to vote for one of three proposed names for a new park in north-west Docklands.

What's the connection to Melbourne Day?

One of the proposals is Lancey Park — after Captain John Lancey, one of the first settlers to arrive aboard the Enterprize and start European settlement of Melbourne on 30 August 1835.

Captain Lancey was the leader of the expedition, representing John Pascoe Fawkner, the owner of Enterprize.

The other proposed names are Ron Barassi Snr Park and Dudley Flats Park.

Melbourne Day FAQs

Our first baby

Mary Gilbert, the first migrant woman settler, gave birth to a son, the first white child born in Melbourne on 29 December 1835. There is a statue of her, above, in Fitzroy Gardens' conservatory. And, yes, she did bring the first cat to Melbourne.
