JFC Construction Update - Construction Progress - Issue 20 - 7 January 2020

 

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Read our construction update to see what has been achieved and what is coming up on the Karangahape Road Enhancements project.

 

Upper Queen Street to Mercury Lane 

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Final stages of the drainage installation near Mercury Lane corner
  • Excavation of the raingarden and treepit on each side of the mid-block pedestrian crossing
  • Installation of the kerblines and preparation of the cycleway from the Upper Queen Street end heading towards Mercury Lane

Upcoming night works - what to expect:

  • UPPER QUEEN STREET
    • Sawcutting Upper Queen Street carriageway from 8pm Tuesday 7 January 2020 for approximately an hour
    • Excavation and installation of stormwater connection into the first lane of the carriageway from 8pm Wednesday 8 January 2020. This area will be reinstated for the morning. 
    • Installation of ducts across to the centre of Upper Queen Street from 8pm Thursday 9 January 2020

These works are scheduled for the evening when traffic volumes are lower, as changes to the road layout and traffic management are required. Vehicle access on Karangahape Road and Upper Queen Street will still be available - please follow the signage. ​

 

Ponsonby Road to Hereford Street

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Continuing construction on the first half of the speed table at the intersection of Hereford Street and Karangahape Road
 

Hereford Street to Howe Street

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Pouring the cycleway channel and traffic island base from Hereford Street towards Howe Street
  • Paving team to start laying the new paving in the traffic island separating the cycleway and the road

Upcoming night works - what to expect:​

  • HOWE STREET
    • ​Locating and uncovering a manhole in the centre of the Howe Street carriageway from 8pm Tuesday 7 January 2020 

This work is scheduled for the evening when traffic volumes are lower, as changes to the road layout and traffic management are required. Vehicle access on Karangahape Road and Howe Street will still be available - please follow the signage. ​

 

Howe Street to Overbridge 

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Pouring the concrete base of the raingarden 
  • Installation of landscaping fill in the raingarden
  • Continued removal of the existing concrete footpath to the building edge, starting from the bridge and progressing towards Howe Street - access to businesses will be maintained
 

Overbridge

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Installation of asphalt around the new paving delineating the cycleway on the bridge

Access

  • Pedestrian access will be temporarily unavailable at times to ensure pedestrian safety
    Some activities require pedestrian access on the bridge to be temporarily unavailable to ensure pedestrian safety, this is being minimised as much as possible. 
  • Temporary Bus Service Relocation
    The bus stops in this location have been relocated further along Karangahape Road, outside Blackboard Café.

    STAGING & LOADING ZONES

    Below is a map of the Karangahape Road precinct showing the construction stages, temporary bus stop relocations and loading zones.

    The Auckland Transport project team are working closely with their parking enforcement team to monitor locations to ensure they're being correctly used. If you have a request for parking enforcement, please call Auckland Council on 09 301 0101.
