Leading Tasmania's renewable energy future

This month we say 'farewell' to CEO Steve Davy. Steve's contribution over the past 15 years has been nothing short of extraordinary. His dedication to the business and passion for hydropower has positioned Hydro Tasmania as a leader in renewable energy in Australia. After 15 years with us, Steve has a lot to talk about! His tenure has included some big challenges, bigger achievements and a new vision for Tasmania's future. He recently took some time to reflect on his journey in an interview for the September edition of CEO Magazine.

Originally from New Zealand, Steve is passionate about his adopted home. He first came here to lead Tasmania's entry into the National Electricity Market (NEM) and has since led the charge on Battery of the Nation, while transforming Hydro Tasmania into a modern workplace that embraces its responsibilities to employees, the environment and the Tasmanian community. We wish Steve and his family every happiness in the future.

While we are sad to see Steve depart the business, we are pleased to introduce you to our new CEO Evangelista (Ange) Albertini. Ange has a passion for renewable energy and the importance we have within the local communities in which we operate. Ange started his engineering career as a Hydro Tasmania trainee in the 1980s, before leaving to gain industry experience in Australia and internationally. He returned to Hydro Tasmania 18 years ago and has since worked in engineering and key operational roles within the business, most recently as Chief Asset Management and Investment Officer.

We are excited to have Ange at the helm. His extensive experience in the hydropower industry stands him in good stead to lead Hydro Tasmania into the future.

Supporting the community through COVID-19

This has been a year no one could have foreseen. To support our local community groups, we extended our annual community grant program to include COVID-19 community grants. The grants were made available for community groups delivering relief to people affected by the economic downturn during COVID-19.

In August, communities throughout Tasmania shared in almost $140,000. This was spent on programs targeting the ongoing effects of COVID-19 on almost every aspect of our way of life.

Helping hand for the short-finned eel

They're incredible climbers, live for decades and swim all the way to New Caledonia to breed, but Tassie's short-finned eels need a helping hand (or fin) every now and then. So we've been working on some changes to the Trevallyn Dam to help this incredible species complete its migration cycle.

We couldn't have achieved this innovative project without the help of Saunders and Ward, Diving and Marine Services, and BridgePro Engineering.
