ACMT CONNECTION E-News: December 2017

As 2017 winds down, I want to review just a few of the ways that ACMT is actively pursuing advocacy for the profession of medical toxicology and our membership. Through the efforts of a number of committees and individuals, as well as input from a number of members through these pesky emails and other announcements (!), we now have:

  • A specialty code with CMS for medical toxicology
  • Developed a series of quality measure metrics
  • A proposal to use ToxIC (which itself has undergone a number of significant improvements and changes) as a federally qualified clinical data registry
  • Expanded our staff to enhance communications, grant activity and the visibility of MTF
  • Moved forward with representation at the AMA

Seminar in Forensic Toxicology in Review

'Opioids, Toxicology, and the Law: Medical-Legal Aspects of the Opioid Epidemic,' held December 11-12 in Philadelphia, was a profound success. Experts in medicine, law, and government, presented fascinating case studies and research on today's opioid epidemic to more than 150 attendees. 

Presentations were recorded and will be available for sale in January (those who attended will have free access). More details to come.

Board of Directors Election Results

We are pleased to announce the results of the ACMT Board of Directors election. Dr. David Juurlink will be joining the Board and Drs. Ziad Kazzi and Andrew Stolbach were elected to serve 2nd terms. All 3-year terms will begin in April 2018.
