Consolidated accounts: an introduction

Brian Harford, principal of Woodgrove Tutorials, has written an article that provides an introduction to producing consolidated accounts for a group in which the assets, liabilities, equity, income, expenses and cash flows of the holding company and its subsidiaries are presented as those of a single entity.

Student maintenance grants are to be abolished from 2016-17

Maintenance grants for students are be replaced with loans, which people will start to pay back when they earn more than £21,000.

Young people still buying books, says Deloitte report

Despite their alleged love affair with all things digital, when it comes to reading young Britons are spurning the e-book in favour of the printed version. Nearly two-thirds of those aged 16 to 24 have never purchased an e-book and only one in four has bought one in the past year.

New seminars for 2015

International section: European Union may ease bank capital rules to boost lending

Tougher capital rules imposed on banks in the European Union since the financial crisis will be reviewed to see if they unnecessarily crimp lending, the bloc's financial services chief said on Wednesday, as Europe makes growth its top priority.
