Thank you for supporting Pride Night!
On Sunday 18 August we hosted our first ever Pride Night event at Collingwood Leisure Centre - an inclusive gym and swim night for the LGBTIQ+ community and their allies.
The event provided a space where diversity and inclusion was celebrated and where the LGBTIQ+ community could feel safe and comfortable participating in health and fitness services.
We had a great turnout for our first ever event with participants enjoying entry in to our aquatic and gym areas, group exercise classes, a pool inflatable obstacle course, music and a chill out zone.
What's next?
We received fantastic feedback both on the night and after the event and now turn our attention to planning a summer event.
Stay tuned for a second Pride Night event coming soon!
Yarra is going plastic free
We're proud to announce that we will be the first of council-run facilities to eliminate single-use plastics as part council's 3-phase plan to eliminate single-use plastics across all council-run facilities by 2022.
In the first phase of the plan, Richmond Recreation Centre, Collingwood Leisure Centre, Fitzroy Swimming Pool and Burnley Golf Course will no longer provide plastic water bottles or straws. Instead, new water fountains will be installed and people will be encouraged to bring their own reusable bottles. The changes are expected to be implemented by the end of this year.

Cold-iflower soup
Snow blanketed the state earlier this month and the weather gods are testing our patience, so we need to find the best ways to warm our bodies and souls. One of our favourite ways to do that is piping hot soup!
This dish is made with cauliflowers, potato and onion and is a great option for a wholesome winter's meal as we trudge through the last couple of weeks of the season.

Keen for green beans
Fasulye is a traditional Turkish bean dish in a tomato sauce that's perfect for eating all year round as it can be served warm or cold.
It's really easy to prepare but does require about an hour to simmer on the stovetop so make sure you have a bit of time up your sleeve. We promise you it's worth it! Flavoursome and great as a side to just about anything.
