Cryptocurrency is continuing its bull run at the start of what has been dubbed “Crypto Week” in Washington, where the House of Representatives will consider three bills with the potential to overhaul U.S. policy on the instrument. Bitcoin hit an all-time high Monday. The bills set to be considered are the Clarity Act, the Genius Act and the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act. The Internal Revenue Service should improve how it handles seized digital assets, according to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. The IRS in some cases didn't follow procedure for safeguarding the assets, the watchdog said in a new report. 

  • Between September 2017 and October 2023, the IRS criminal investigations unit seized 299 digital assets worth a combined $8 billion.

TikTok is racing to make a data-security deal with Canada to avoid shutting down operations in the country, where it has 14 million users and employs about 350 locals. (Bloomberg)

Lawmakers in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday approved a plan to spend $23 million to modernize the city's tech and security after  ransomware hackers a year ago disrupted citizen services and stole data. The city spent $7 million to hire cyber and legal experts to develop an incident report, which hasn't been made public. Firefighters and police officers are suing the city over the breach of their personal data. (Columbus Dispatch)

Medical billing company Episource is notifying 5.4 million people that their personal and healthcare details were compromised in a cyberattack in February.

  • Episource is owned by Optum, a unit of UnitedHealth Group, whose Change Healthcare unit was hacked in 2024. (TechCrunch)
