Creating connections for growth

Welcome to the September edition of ConnectER: the newsletter that keeps you updated on the growth and collaboration NERA's driving in the energy resources sector.

In this edition of ConnectER:

  • the latest from GeneratER, our open innovation challenge program
  • the launch of HyCapability, Australia’s first hydrogen capability finder, plus other news from the H2TCA
  • how we're future-proofing the Centre of Decommissioning Australia
  • and support NERA’s vision of an integrated ocean energy marketplace.

GeneratER open innovation challenge program

Shortlisted applicants present virtual pitch sessions

The entrepreneurial spirit of the WA SME community shone through in a solid response to the three Chevron Australia challenges launched in June as part of the GeneratER open innovation challenge program.

A total of 28 EOIs were received across the three challenges, including several collaborative bids. From these, 16 solutions were invited to provide more information about their companies and technologies to the challenge owners in a series of virtual pitch sessions.

Chevron is now determining which companies will progress to the next round, and are a step closer to securing their pilot solution.

Next: NERA will soon be announcing new GeneratER challenges, so watch this space.

Driving Australia's hydrogen industry

Explore HyCapability

HyCapability — Australia’s first hydrogen capability finder

Together, NERA and Hydrogen Technology Cluster Australia (H2TCA) network have launched HyCapability — Australia’s first hydrogen capability finder.

This free, online, searchable platform maps regional hydrogen ecosystems and supply chain capacity, making it easier for domestic and global markets to identify businesses along the hydrogen value chain that have innovative technology, service and equipment offerings for the hydrogen industry.

Integrated ocean energy marketplace

NERA’s vision of an integrated ocean energy marketplace has received a boost with $4.8m of funding being contributed from the WA government, Blue Economy CRC and University of Western Australia.

Under this funding, the Australian Ocean Energy Group will work closely with UWA’s Wave Energy Research Centre to align the M4 research program with tangible commercial outcomes. Connecting markets with marine renewable solutions will accelerate adoption for the wave and tidal energy sectors.

Magneto-EX — the world's first EX-rated inspection robot

Last month we hosted the launch of Magneto-EX — the world’s first, fully design approved, EX-rated, robotic, camera inspection device.

Built by WA-based robotics firm Nexxis, the spider-like device is the first system to be developed which is suitable for use in hazardous area inspections — a game changer not only for the oil and gas sector, but any industry where there is a need for confined space inspections.

Corrosion resistant, stainless steel 3D-printing: a new reality for the O&G industry

NERA's financial support means the printing of corrosion resistant, stainless-steel components in remote locations is now a reality for the O&G industry.

Melbourne-based SPEE3D produces mobile and adaptable printers which, using metal cold spray technology — the world's most affordable metal additive manufacturing process — can produce industrial quality metal parts in just minutes, rather than days or weeks.
