CONTENTS SPOTLIGHT - TELLING YOU FRANCE BY MICKY KEEREN, THE PASSING OF NIGEL GORE SPOTLIGHT WCT: CROSS-CULTURAL ARTICLES: The French love history with a preference for ‘their own’ since they are so proud of it. You can’t please them by asking them ‘tell me about the past’. The French are inventors and Concorde, nuclear power, Minitel and the Citroën DS are still distinguishing features of their greatness not so long ago. There are several foreigners with a different view of the world, that wonder if this love for their past doesn’t hide their regrets? The French seem reluctant to change. France today is so similar to France in the past; the same villages, the same café de la gare, the same demonstrations and work conflicts are still there. The French will never give up their high quality of life, even for more money, a mistake made by many foreign business men/women. The French culture has very deep roots and France will always stay the same. There is so much to say about this fascinating country where I have been living now for 42 years, how lucky I am! So read my forthcoming articles: telling you France. FIBA: RHÔNE-ALPES – THE PASSING OF NIGEL GORE It's with great sadness that we write to inform you of the death of Nigel Gore. Nigel died suddenly at his home in La Tour de Salvagny on Wednesday 19th July. Nigel was a stalwart of Franco-British business in Lyon. He opened the Lyon office of PWC and after a long and prestigious career as an accountant, took "early retirement" and retrained as a lawyer. He enjoyed a rewarding final chapter of his professional life working as a Franco-British lawyer in Lyon. Nigel was a former President of the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce in Lyon and was a founding member of FIBA. He served as FIBA's first Secretary in our association's early years and played a vital role in the launch and promotion of the association. After stepping down from the committee, Nigel continued to support FIBA as an extremely loyal and active member and was present at our recent event with Michel Barnier. We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
