Throwback ThursdaySensational Escape from SharkWhen James Knight, a Homebush florist, went for a refreshing dip in Powells Creek on Christmas Day 1930, it didn’t quite go to plan. The creek was crowded with children when Knight saw a fin approaching. Three times the shark lunged for him and missed, lacerating him each time with its rough skin. He was saved by the murky water which made it difficult for the shark to get a grip on its victim. Eventually the maddened shark made its escape, as did Knight who was suffering from shock. James was the brother of Alderman George Knight of Homebush Council. Sydney Morning Herald (NSW: 1842 -1954), Saturday 27 December 1930, p. 9 |
