Getting the right help can change people's lives. Our NDIS Community Connectors in the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast can help connect people with disability with the NDIS. We now have flyers translated in many different languages to help spread information about the NDIS to more multicultural communities. Click here to access them. Our I Speak Your Language program is still delivering regular friendly phone calls to isolated people across Queensland in their own language to help them feel more connected and social. We have volunteers ready to make calls in the following languages.
If you know anyone who would benefit from a friendly call in any of the above languages, you can access our registration form here or visit the website for more information. Happy Queensland Women's Week! Thank you to all the young women and special guests who celebrated with us at our annual Sisters for Success workshop! What an inspiring day filled with learning, sharing and connecting. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. Thanks to MCCGC -“Our Colours Our Stories” and Queensland Government for support. Queensland Women's Week runs until 14th March 2021. National Advance Care Planning Week is an annual initiative by Advance Care Planning Australia that encourages all Australians, regardless of their age or health status, to make their future health care preferences known. The initiative challenges people to discuss what living well means to them and to consider who they would want to speak for them, if they were too sick to speak for themselves. The initiative has been successful in starting tough but important conversations, bringing to topic to talk-back radio and family dinner tables across Australia – from Kalgoorlie to Townsville to Alice Springs.
We also have 3 copies of the new book 'When the Time Comes' at our offices that you can borrow! The book is jointly written, collected and curated by a doctor and nurse working in end-of-life care, this collection of personal experiences (of families and healthcare professionals) throws light on social, cultural and individual influences on what is expected but not necessarily wanted and when we need to start asking ourselves and our loved ones - and our patients - about their preferences. In particular, the issue of futile over-treatment getting in the way of peaceful opportunities to be with friends and family and say good-bye arises again and again. Far more universal and pressing than 'the right to die' is the right to have a non-medicalised and not over-extended, good quality end-of-life. The Dignity Drive is running throughout March to support people who are in need of period products due to homelessness, domestic violence or crisis. Everyone deserves the right to their dignity and your donations can make a difference! We have a collection box at our Ashmore Office but you can also donate at collection points at Woolworths and other nominated businesses throughout March. Accepted items include:
Your generous donations go directly to help those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence and those doing it tough. For more information visit: https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/dignity-drive-2021
