This coincides with World Mental Health Day which fell on 10 October. Mental Health Week provides organisations with an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing. Surf Life Saving NSW is taking this opportunity to launch our new member welfare procedures following critical incidents. Let's Talk About the Elephant on the BeachSLSNSW joined forces with Wesley Mission Hospitals for the promotion of Mental Health Month (October) at Avalon Beach SLSC yesterday. Wesley Mission Hospitals brought along Wesley the Elephant to encourage everyone to talk about the 'elephant in the room' and to raise awareness of, and remove the stigma behind mental health. Charlie Watts is Paddling for His LifeLike many 15-year-olds, Charlie Watts loves skateboarding. He also loves spending his time at the beach as a lifesaver. One night, while skating down a hill, he fell off his board and shattered his skull - leaving him in a coma. SLSNSW Offering Free UAV Pilot TrainingProviding a new pathway into Surf Life Saving, the UAV training program gives aspiring pilots the opportunity to don the iconic red and yellow uniform and patrol the NSW coastline without getting their feet wet. Quick-Thinking Surf Lifesavers Revive Copacabana ManOff-duty surf lifesavers are being praised for their quick-thinking after they revived a man who had a severe heart attack and collapsed in Copacabana on the NSW Central Coast. Surf Life Saving NSW Launches New Podcast SeriesSurf Life Saving NSW today launched a new podcast series. The What the Surf?! podcast features news and interviews with volunteer surf lifesavers who dedicate thousands of hours each year to saving lives. Grants & Fundraising Mental Health First Aid CourseOne in five Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. The Australian Lifesaving Academy NSW is now delivering the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) – Standard 2 Day Course as authored by Mental Health First Aid Australia, delivered by instructors who are currently accredited by MHFA Australia. The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for Surf Life Saving entities across Australia.
