Magda Biady – Customer Service AdviserI have been working in Local Government for the past 30 years. Having worked at Strathfield Council for the past 10 years, I have developed a strong bond with the local community and our residents whom I enjoy interacting with. I strive to provide the highest service possible and find my role a very rewarding one. Being the first point of contact for members of the community, our role covers a vast range of enquiries including: taking payments, issuing parking permits, lodging feedback (compliance issues, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, noise, health, rubbish and tree issues), lodging development applications and liaising with relevant departments in order to meet the needs of our customers. No day is ever the same! To find out more about Customer Service at Strathfield Council click here. In Strathfield, we are fortunate to have the Cooks River pass through our Local Government Area. However, as a result of urban development and industrial activity, the Cooks River is one of the most polluted waterways in Sydney. To learn more about your local river, and work being done to clean it, come and see our Cooks River Catchment Model at the Spring Festival on Saturday 2 September at the Sustainability stall. Thank you to everyone who took part in the Chemical CleanOut event on Sunday 13 August! The day was a great success with 234 cars delivering approximately 9 tonnes of chemicals throughout the day, including enough gas bottles to have 50 barbecues and enough paint to cover 120 houses. A great result! Dog and cat owners are legally required to microchip and register their pets, in case the animal goes missing. Microchipping must be done by the time they are 12 weeks old and registration before they are 6 months old. Council updates contact details free of charge. Birnam WoodThis excellent photo is of a garden party at Birnam Wood, the home of Colonel John Mclean Arnott. It appeared in the Sydney Mail on 29 January 1913, and demonstrates the past time fun of residents. Birnam Wood was demolished in 1927, and subdivided to create the street Birnam Grove.
