Best Practices for Formatting Links in CanvasThe Rich Content Editor in Canvas makes it easy to add links; inserting a link can be accomplished with a simple copy and paste. However, to increase the readability and accessibility of your page, follow these steps when incorporating links in text.
- Instead of pasting in a raw URL, type the text of the link’s destination and link that text. For example, instead of pasting “https://www.seattleu.edu/” onto the page, type “Seattle University” and make that text the
hyperlink.
- Rather than using ambiguous words for links such as “Click Here” or “Read More”, make sure the link text describes the destination. For example, instead of “Click here for the syllabus”, say “Learn more about assignment requirements in the course syllabus.”
- Don’t use underlining for emphasis when writing online. Underlining should be reserved for links.

Expand student collaboration by incorporating OneNote Class Notebook into your Canvas course. Included with SU Office 365, OneNote Class Notebook enables you to create notebooks for document sharing, collaboration and class wikis.
Gadget of the MonthAirtableAirtable is a free web-based tool that makes it easy for you and your students to create database collections that can be quickly sliced and diced to create
Pinterest-style galleries. With its wide range of applications for collecting and organizing data, Airtable should be on your list of “killer apps”.
Canvas Tips & TricksQuickly Check for Broken Links in CanvasAs an instructor, you can verify all external links throughout your course to ensure they are valid. The course link validator searches through course content and returns invalid or unresponsive external links. However, please note that some links flagged as unresponsive are inaccessible by Canvas servers and will still work for
students. Check out the guide "How do I validate links in a course?" for details.
