SLDL December News

The SLDL office hopes to engage students, faculty, and staff in ways
that promote and develop an inclusive and diverse environment.
We oversee student clubs and the Graduate Student Council, promote student engagement, host events and workshops related to diversity and leadership, advise international students, promote mentorship, and manage health insurance enrollment. World AIDS Day 

On December 1, 1988, World Aids Day became one of eleven official global public health campaigns to increase HIV awareness and speak out against HIV stigma.

Queer Resource Center 

The Queer Resource Center (QRC) is a 7C resource center serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, omnisexual, and pansexual communities, as well as allies. The QRC seeks to foster a safer, more diverse, and inclusive campus by educating and engaging the 7C community about the multiplicity of sexual and gender identities.

“How do social justice movements influence your field or art?” 

Wednesday, December 2 | 4 PM - 5:30 PM 

2020! Not only were we impacted by a global pandemic, but we also saw a rise in social justice movements across the nation. Join Assistant Director of Student Engagement, David Estudiante and a panel of SAH students to discuss how 2020, specifically the pandemic and social justice movements have impacted their field or artwork. Ask Me Pop-Up with the Office of Student Engagement

The Office of Student Engagement hosts monthly pop-ups to engage with students and build community. During these virtual drop-ins we partner with resources, campus and consortium wide, and share information regarding upcoming events, workshops, programs and much more. OPT Workshop

Thursday, December 3 | 12 PM - 1 PM

December graduates – there is still time to apply for OPT!

SLDL will host an Optional Practical Training (OPT) workshop which is open to all current F-1 students, especially those who are planning to graduate and apply for OPT during the current or upcoming semester, or those interested in pre-completion OPT. During the session, we will cover information on what OPT is, who is eligible to apply, the application timeline and materials, etc. ⠀

Chabad First Friday of the Month Pre-Shabbat Gathering!

On the first Friday of every month, we will have a pre-Shabbat gathering at 3PM PT. This is a time to relax, chat with friends, and take a moment of reflection during a stressful time. We hope to see you there!

The GSC meets every two weeks to convene, review, and discuss open matters. This general meeting is open to all students to attend. The meeting will provide the CGU community with insight on the projects GSC is working on to better support the graduate community.

This event is structured so that you can pop in at any time, so don’t be shy if you only have a little time to spare. International Students English Games Event!  

Saturday, December 19 | 8 PM - 10 PM

Open to all International Students!
Join us for a FUN yet challenging event to practice your English skills hosted by the International Scholars Program at CGU!
Meet up and be social with other international students and ISP instructors as you test your knowledge of the English language, idioms, verbs, academic and daily vocabulary, along with some fun trivia.
There will be prizes for the winners of each round of games.

EmPOWER center details

EmPOWER Center Services 

The EmPOWER Center offers the following services: 

  1. Phone/Dixy.me sessions with Project Sister counselors. To schedule, please call (909) 607-0690. Ongoing sessions are available to students currently receiving EmPower counseling services OR to students living within CA. Students living outside of CA receive intial emotional support and referrals in their local communities (in keeping with CA mental health licensing laws).
  2. Phone/Zoom sessions with the EmPOWER director, Rima Shah (she's a confidential advocate). To schedule, please call (909) 607-2689 or email rshahempower@claremont.edu (available to students no matter where they are located in the world). 
  3. EmPOWER's 7C-wide educational programs will be offered via Zoom, videos, and more.
