Marqeta Inc., an Oakland, Calif.-based startup that enables businesses to issue debit cards, added $150 million from an unnamed institutional investor. The deal more than doubles the company’s valuation since its most recent funding round, to $4.3 billion. Last May, the company raised a $260 million Series E from Coatue, Vitruvian Partners, Spark Capital, Geodesic Capital, Iconiq Capital, Granite Ventures, CommerzVentures and 83North.
Pie Insurance, a Washington, D.C.-based provider of workers’ compensation insurance directly to small businesses, closed a $127 million funding round. New investor Gallatin Point Capital joined existing backers Greycroft, SVB Capital, Aspect Ventures, Elefund, and Sirius International Insurance Group in the round.
Synack Inc., a Redwood City, Calif.-based crowdsourced security platform, raised $52 million in Series D funding. C5 Capital USA and B Capital Group led the round, which included participation from GGV Capital, GV, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Icon Ventures, Intel Capital, Kleiner Perkins, M12 and Singtel Innov8. William Kilmer, managing partner at C5, joined the company’s board.
Q32 Bio, a Cambridge, Mass.-based startup developing therapies to restore healthy immune regulation, launched with $46 million in Series A funding. Atlas Venture led the investment, which included contributions from OrbiMed Advisors, Abingworth and Sanofi Ventures. Additionally, Q32 named Michael Broxson as chief executive. He was previously chief business and operating officer at Goldfinch Bio.
Wasabi, a Boston-based startup offering cloud storage to businesses, completed a $30 million funding round led by Forestay Capital.
Decibel, a London-based provider of online customer experience insight for businesses, added $23 million in Series B funding from Perwyn to close the round at $40 million. Draper Esprit, Eight Road Ventures and Ventureforgood provided the initial tranche in November 2019.
GoBear, a Singapore-based financial services platform for insurance, banking and lending products, picked up a $17 million investment from Walvis Participaties and Aegon NV.
Accern, a New York-based developer of a no-code AI platform, closed a $13 million Series A round. Fusion Fund led the investment, with support from Mighty Capital, Allianz Life Ventures, Vectr Fintech Partners, Viaduct Ventures and others.
Stackin', a Los Angeles text message-based financial platform, landed $12.6 million in Series B financing. Octopus Ventures led the round, with participation from Experian Ventures, Cherry Tree Investments, Dig Ventures, Mucker Capital, Unlock Venture Partners, TechStars and Wavemaker Partners. Marieke Christmann, principal at Octopus, will join the board.
Almanac, a cloud-based platform for open source docs, was seeded with a $9 million investment. Floodgate's Mike Maples led the round, and was joined by General Catalyst, Inspired, Abstract, Shrug, Worklife, Indicator, CoFound, Array and Liquid2.
Commerce Layer Inc., a commerce platform and order management system, fetched $6 million in Series A funding. Benchmark led the round, with Mango Capital, DAXN, PrimeSet, SV Angel and NVInvestments also participating. Benchmark General Partner Eric Vishria will join the board.
Stringr, a New York-based on-demand video news service, secured a $5.8 million investment from Thomson Reuters Ventures, G5 Capital and Advection Growth Capital.
