Links - Term 2 Week 10

Dear Friend of PLC

From The Principal

Thank You

As we approach the last day of Term 2, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support over the last few months as we have navigated our way through the ongoing challenges that have come with COVID-19.

Have a Restful Break

I wish all students, families and staff all the best for a restful holiday break.

I am personally looking forward to making the time to stop and enjoy my surroundings, take advantage of the opportunity to spend time outdoors and to catch up with friends.

A Busy Term Ahead

I am also very much looking forward to what I hope will be a relatively ‘normal’ Term 3 – based on our ‘new normal’ of course! I hope that we can commence Term 3 with an Assembly and our first chance to bring our School together for a while. There is so much to look forward to in Term 3, including Arts Day, Founders' Day and the return of our Music and Dance showcases. It should certainly be an exciting and busy term ahead.

Last Day of Term 2

A reminder that tomorrow, 3 July is the last day of Term 2! See below for the finish times.

  • 12.45 pm for Kindy and Pre-Primary
  • 12.50 pm for Years 1 to 3
  • 12.55 pm for Years 4 to 6

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday break!

- Cate Begbie, Principal

From The Head and Deputy Head Prefect

As Term 2 comes to an end, we have started to reflect on what a term it has been! From online learning, exams, Inter-School Cross Country and life returning to a new normal, this term has been filled with many new opportunities, excitement and accomplishments.

Looking back, it's strange to remember how quickly situations changed and how everyone had to adapt.

We would like to take the time to thank our amazing teachers and operations staff at PLC for continually providing us with the skills and tools we need to succeed in our learning.

We are excited to commence Term 3 holidays tomorrow! We encourage you all to explore new and exciting things to do within the borders of WA, some of which we have included in this week's edition of The Panama. We hope you find something different or out of your comfort zone. Stay safe, have fun and we look forward to seeing you next term!

    #PLCGetOutdoors

With many families exploring WA this holiday, the PLC Outdoor Education Department is inviting you to send in photos of your trip! Post your photos and tag #PLCGetOutdoors or send your photos to cande@plc.wa.edu.au.

PLC Foundation Student Hardship Appeal - Thank You

A massive thank you to our PLC community, who have helped to raise $576,224 for the PLC Foundation Student Hardship Appeal.

This is an incredible amount and will greatly assist the School to support those families facing extremely difficult financial circumstances as a result of COVID-19.

The Appeal aims to provide those families in need, time to get themselves ‘back on their feet’ and avoid having to withdraw their daughters from PLC and enroll them elsewhere. A rigorous and confidential application process is in place to ensure only families facing genuine hardship receive funds.

If you would like to contribute to this cause, please click here.

      Term 3 Co-Curricular

Co-curricular programmes are up and running again and open for bookings. Please visit the Co-curricular website on home.plc to review activities, download the latest timetable and to book.

      New Course!

A new academic co-curricular activity is available next term! Our Publications Co-ordinator, Kylie Yacopetti, will be holding an InDesign class on Thursdays after-school for Years 9 and 10 students. Only 12 places available. Book now if you’d like to join in!

      Come and Have a Rest

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
      (Matthew 18:28-30)

Every day we face numerous demands on our time and energy. In addition to this, we’re bombarded by expert advice on how to address potential issues or challenges in our lives. We might start to second-guess ourselves, especially when we sometimes get it wrong in our family life. Where should we turn to when we need help?

I gain confidence when I remember that I’m not alone, for the Living God is with me every moment of every day and that I may rest in God’s love. Because God is with me, I’m able to say: I’ve got this!

As God is with all of us, we may say: We’ve got this! It will be OK.

During this holiday: May the grace of God be with you and may you feel His presence in every moment. May God protect you wherever your journey might take you and may you be rejuvenated when you return next term. AMEN.

Year 7 Family Service Project – Cooking for a Cause

Cooking for a Cause is an opportunity for Year 7 PLC families to be involved in a Family Service Project as part of PLC’s commitment to community and service. To sign-up to participate in either cooking session (12 August or 27 August), please contact the Year 7 Family Projects Co-ordinator, Roslyn Dioth. Tech Tips for Seniors

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from Years 9 to 12 students who would like to participate in our Tech Tips for Seniors sessions at the Grove Library. These sessions run on Tuesday afternoons and are designed to foster relationships between our girls and senior members of the local community, whilst trouble-shooting tech questions. Limited places are available for this programme. If your daughter is interested, complete this permission slip and return to the Lighthouse reception.

Three-Way Conferences and Parent Teacher Meetings

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended the Three-Way conferences and Parent Teacher Meetings on Monday. The Three-Way Conferences are a wonderful way of celebrating what your daughter has achieved and to demonstrate your personal investment in their goals for Semester 2.

      Staffing

This week, we bid farewell to Miss Siobhan Rooney, our Information and Learning Technologies Teacher. Miss Rooney has played such a significant role in supporting teachers to integrate technology into their programmes and pedagogy. Miss Rooney was critical in supporting staff and students during our online learning period. She will be missed, and we wish her all the best for her move back to Sydney.

      July Holidays

A reminder that Term 2 comes to an end tomorrow, 3 July at:

      • 12.45 pm for Kindy and Pre-Primary
      • 12.50 pm for Years 1 to 3
      • 12.55 pm for Years 4 to 6

I wish all our families a restful and safe holiday. I know many members of the community will be spending time exploring Western Australia and I look forward to seeing the students return on Tuesday 28 July.

      Sport Co-Curricular

Students in Years 1 to 6 are welcome to participate in Co-Curricular Sport. If your daughter would like to register, please return this form to sports@plc.wa.edu.au before tomorrow - Friday 3 July. You can find the training schedule here.

The School is Buzzing With Energy

Today, the Senior School was buzzing with energy as we had, not only our Free Dress Day, but also surprise food trucks on campus for lunch!

We have been busy in the Senior School, including Wellbeing Captain, Erin's mass yoga events last week. We also recently had a large number of our students participate in the Virtual Sleepout to raise awareness for the disadvantaged community of WA. Some roughed it a bit more than others, but everyone helped to raise money for a great cause. Next term, the fun continues with our Athletics Carnival and Arts Day, two key calendar events.

        Next Term

        Rescheduled Photographs

On Friday 31 July, we will be having our rescheduled photograph for our Boarders, Gorna Liyarn students and Year 12 students. All students will be required to be in their formal winter uniform for these photographs, including ties and blazers. Year 12s are also asked to bring their labeled panama to the photograph for the traditional ‘hat throw’ photograph.

        Transition to Year 11

While it has been disappointing that with COVID restrictions, the Year 10 Quest was unable to go ahead as scheduled this year, we do have a range of meaningful and engaging activities planned for the Year 10s in their final week of Term 3.

All Year 10s are required to participate in the week’s schedule and the focus will be on preparing our Year 10 girls for the transition to Year 11, both emotionally and academically, whilst bringing the Year group together. The interactive workshops will include everything from study skills to community service.

        Have a Great Holiday

Finally, I hope that all Senior School students and their families are able to have a relaxing holiday break. For our Year 11 and Year 12 students, it is important that you find the balance between relaxation and preparation for your final term. I encourage you all to rest and give your bodies a chance to re-charge.

A reminder that school finishes at 1.00 pm for the Senior School students tomorrow, 3 July.
