NOTICES:
Important Notice: From Monday 12th November, the Primary gates will not be opened until 2:55pm ready for a 3:00pm collection. This is due to the fact that many lessons are still taking place at this time and children may be working in the playground. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
Parents should not be waiting in the Front Office reception area after 4:30pm without a staff member. If you are waiting to collect from a club you must wait outside the building. Morning break snacks are to be fruit (fresh, dried etc) not biscuits or cereal bars. Please leave these items for lunch or after school clubs snacks. Reminder: Football shoes are not to be worn to school, they are dangerous as they do not allow the students to have a good grip when running on hard surfaces and could lead to an accident. Any student who wears them to school will not be allowed to participate in PE lessons or use the playground at break and lunch times.
Break Time Snacks: All children can bring a snack from home to have at break time. This snack MUST be fruit. If any child brings a snack that is not fruit, they will be asked to put it back in their bags to eat after school. Birthdays - If you wish to celebrate your child's birthday by sharing a cake with the class, can we
please ask that it is brought to the classroom the morning of the celebration and that it is already cut up and packaged. Our teachers do not have the time or equipment to be able to cut up sheet cakes and distribute to the children. We ask that you do not drop birthday cakes or party bags to the front office during the day as they are not always guaranteed to have the time to take them to the classroom, and this can lead to disappointment for your child. Lost Property - We currently have an abundance of lost property in the front office, including winter coats. Can all parents please come
and check if any of the items belong to your children. We will be donating all remaining goods to a local charity before half term due to space restrictions.
It is important that parents model good behaviour for children. Please do not swear or use insulting language in the playground. If a member of staff hears this you will be asked to leave the premises and may be banned. Please also remember that our staff are always working for the best interests of the children. If you would like to discuss
anything regarding your child please speak to the class teacher, Mrs Drummond or Miss Dilger. Please do not shout or be rude to a member of staff as this makes the situation very difficult.
Mrs Drummond's challengeWell done to all of those that took part in my challenge this week - it's great to see the number growing! Don't forget to try the new one for this week and bring your solution to me on Monday morning.

Journey to the South PoleThis week Reception have been learning all about boats as we continue our project and travel on a journey to the South Pole! We investigated the properties of materials to find objects that can float and sink. We also compared a lot of different types of boat, discussed how each one is suited to a different
types of journey and made decisions about which boat is our favourite - speed boats and cruise ships were very popular! The children used their knowledge to make models using recycled materials and tested them for size and strength. If we survive the huge waves, we can't wait to see where our journey takes us next week!
Stop the clock! This week in Year 1 we explored time by playing different time games. For 'Stop the Clock' we worked with our talk partner to roll the die and move the clock hands. If the die landed on 1,2 or 3 we moved on the hands an hour. If the die landed on 4,5 or 6 then we moved the hands on half an
hour. The winner was the person who landed back at 12 o' clock.
Rocking Geologists! This week Year 2 have investigated different types of rocks. We know that rocks can be millions of years old and can tell us about the history of our earth, so we began by looking at the different sorts of rocks that are in our very own playground! We discussed what was the same and what was different about a selection of
rocks, focussing on colour, size and texture. We noticed that some rocks are very smooth and some are very jagged. We have also been writing about rocks in our storytelling lessons as our book of the term is Pebble In My Pocket. This week we have followed the journey of the rock through rivers to the sea, describing how it would have felt to make such a treacherous journey. We are looking forward to visiting the Natural History Museum next week where we will learn about dinosaurs.
Year 3 discover the relics on Egyptian pyramids! On Wednesday, Year 3 visited the British Museum to explore all the amazing artefacts from Ancient Egypt. We saw canonic jars, sarcophagi, wall paintings, sculptures, statues and even some REAL remains of mummies! We could not believe just how old all these things were - it was so exciting. We
also used our historian expertise to ask a lot of questions about what these objects can tell us about the Egyptians.
Fraction FindersYear 4 have been developing their fractions knowledge this week, working out how to share fractions between different numbers of people. We even started to connect this knowledge to our previous learning of equivalent fractions - some fantastic grit shown during what have been some challenging lessons!
Expertise certificate winners Well done to our certificate winners this week, showing the attribute of expertise by listening to feedback to help improve their work with multiple redrafts. Congratulations to Hanna, Kiran, Ishraq, Zakariya, Aiden, Himnish, Tiarn, Jenny, Christina, Hector, Inara, Samar, Sofia, Melani and
Ayman.
Dress Up for Digits! On Friday 1st February School 21 Primary will be taking part in Dress up for Digits to help support NSPCC Number Day. Children are invited to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt or even a onesie!). To help raise money for the
NSPCC, we are asking for a suggested donation of £1, and we’d love everyone in the school to take part in this special event. In the afternoon children will be taking part in lots of exciting problem solving activities and maths games. We’re looking forward to all the fun of Number Day, and we really appreciate your support. All the money we raise at will make an enormous difference to children today and help change the lives of children tomorrow.
Recieving Emails from School Those with Yahoo email accounts need to add: 3164001@capita-intouch.co.uk as a safe contact so that they can receive emails from the school.
Returning spare clothesIf your child has borrowed clothing from school (especially in Reception and Year 1) please can you ensure that it is washed and brought back to school as soon as possible so that it is available for other children to borrow. Thank you.
Overdue Library BooksPlease return your overdue library books! We currently have over 500 books overdue. This means that students are unable to borrow popular books. Students are allowed to borrow up to three books for a loan period of one month and can be renewed after this period should the need arise. Any books that are lost or damaged must be replaced. The People’s Budget Forums will be held on 16 January, 21 January and 24 January, giving residents a chance to speak with the Mayor of Newham, Cabinet members and
officers about the budget proposals.
The proposals, which have been influenced by what residents have said during Citizens’ Assemblies, include investing: £3m to pay our care staff the London Living Wage; £1.4m into youth services to keep our young people safe; £6.3m so that primary school children continue to eat for free; £10.6m into Children’s Services; £1.3m to support children with Special Educational Needs; £1.4m to support 19,000 lowest income
households by cutting the cost of their Council Tax; £390,000 for free bulky waste collections; An additional £500,000 to accelerate social housing
delivery; £250,000 to ensure residents are at the heart of our decision-making process.
In order to pay for this, a 2.9% increase in Council Tax is proposed alongside an Adult Social Care Precept of 2%. This additional payment of just 89p per
week, for a Band D property, for the Newham element of Council Tax, alongside a planned programme of savings, will help fund new and improved services.
The Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz, said: “These budget forums are another example of how we are continuing to put residents at the heart of everything we do.
“Setting the budget for 2019/20 is an important step for this administration and we want our residents to be informed about the process.
“I’m encouraging everyone to get involved, including young people, to come along to these People’s Budget Forums to find out more about how we’ll spend money as a council in the next financial year and learn more about what we do.”
The forums are part of a series of platforms created by the council to enhance governance and transparency; and ensure that Newham residents are more involved with decision-making. They will provide an opportunity to discuss how the council is funded, its 2019/20 budget proposals, and how residents can be involved in future budget decisions.
