Take part this November by spreading awareness of asbestos and the dangers it can pose. Usha Arvind - Road Safety OfficerI have been with Strathfield Council for the past three months and am responsible for raising awareness about road safety. Some of these projects include safety around schools, fatigue and speeding. My most recent project was a child car seat safety check and fitting day, in which we reviewed 49 car seats. Alarmingly, almost 90% of the seats we checked were incorrectly fitted, which has the potential for serious injury. It is illegal to use car seats that don’t comply with Australian standards or which are more than ten years old. The high number of errors demonstrates the need for such events. Our team were able to work with the parents and educate them on the correct use of car seats to ensure the safety of our littlest residents. Keep an eye out for our next big campaigns regarding Pedestrian safety and Graduated Licensing Scheme! For more information on car seat safety, visit Child Car Seats. Graffiti vandalism costs the NSW Government and residents more than $300 million every year. To help with this issue and love where you live, you can volunteer and nominate a site for Graffiti Removal Day. When: Sunday 29 October 2017 For more information call 1300 665 310 ES&A Bank (ANZ Bank) StrathfieldYou may have entered or walked by the Strathfield ANZ branch located on The Boulevarde countless times, but did you know its history dates back to the 19th century? The English, Scottish & Australian Bank Limited (ES&A Bank) was founded in 1852 by Royal Charter in London, and merged with the Australian and New Zealand Bank (ANZ) in 1970. The bank has been rebuilt and renovated and continues to trade from the same location. Images courtesy of Jam Xia, words courtesy of Cathy Jones.
