The DA for the Australian Korean Memorial Garden at Bressington Park has been lodged. The Garden will be a memorial to the Australian soldiers who fought in the Korean War. The DA is on exhibition until 23 June 2017 and can be viewed at Council’s Customer Service or online. Submissions for the DA are due by 5pm 23 June 2017 and should be either posted or emailed to Council council@strathfield.nsw.gov.au As part of the Capital Works Program, Council will be undertaking a number of upgrades and construction works around Strathfield, to improve the area and meet the diverse needs of a growing population. The works will occur throughout 2017 and 2018 and include upgrades to playgrounds, amenities, roads, community centres and more. Sydney Water will be replacing the old concrete banks of Powells Creek between Pomeroy Street and Conway Avenue with sandstone and native plants. A Royal VisitOn 24 February 1958, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother visited Australia including the Strathfield South Housing Project which was built in the 1950s, to cope with the demand of the post-war housing shortage. The Queen Mother drove through the streets of the housing development and past the new High Street Library and Edwards Park waving to local schoolchildren who lined the streets.
