Card surcharge ban means no more nasty surprises
|
|
|
|
|
Hidden charges for paying with a debit or credit card have been banned through a new EU directive.
So-called ‘surcharging’ has become commonplace, particularly online, with many retailers hitting people with surprise charges just before they are about to make a purchase. Some retailers have been known to add charges that are far higher than it costs them to process a payment. It is estimated that surcharging cost Brits £166 million in 2015.

New technical newsletter for members

As a benefit of being a professional member you were previously sent a newsletter called CCH Practice News. This has now been replaced with a new publication, provided by Croner-i, called Kestrian Small Practitioner, which will be emailed to you every month.

The Welsh Government and the National Assembly for Wales is to become responsible for some of the taxes paid in Wales in April 2018.
Three taxes in Wales will be affected: Stamp Duty Land Tax; landfill tax; and income tax.

Leading economists from France and Germany on Wednesday weighed in on the politically heated debate about making the euro zone more resilient during any future crises by calling for new fiscal rules and the creation of a virtual euro-area “safe asset”.
