October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and we’re celebrating together with a special Screen on the Green event in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta. Sincerely, Upcoming Programs & Events Screen on the Green VSP Café CelebrationThurs, Oct 29, 6:30-8:30 pm This month, we’ll wrap up Down Syndrome Awareness Month with an outdoor dinner and a screening of a surprise movie, in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta! Make sure to join us for the celebration, time together with friends, and an amazing movie! To ensure the safety of our participants and staff, space is limited and requires advanced registration. Cost: $20 Know Your Voting Rights Zoom with Bobby NewmanThurs, Oct 22, 5:30 pm The 2020 Presidential Election is on November 3. Learn more about the voting process from Blonder Department Facilitator Bobby Newman, who will also answer all your questions on this interactive Zoom event. He’ll explain the process of voting in-person or by mail, your rights as a voter, and the ways you can make sure your voice is heard! Regardless of your political views, voting is one of the most important things you can do as a citizen! Come prepared to learn and discuss. Save the Date for our 2nd Annual VSP Café Friendsgiving CelebrationThursday, Nov 19, 6:30-8:00 pm Join us for a special Friendsgiving Dinner at the MJCCA to celebrate friendships and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. There will be more details to come, but expect all of your favorite Thanksgiving classics and fun ways to celebrate being with friends during a holiday about gratitude. Debra “Debbie” Sonenshine SOAR KickballTuesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm Get outside and join the team! We are so excited to be offering another season of Kickball. We spend time learn the rules of the game and still have plenty of time to play some ball. Come kick it with us! *Note: SOAR Kickball will be held on the outdoor fields. Fee: $70 Debra “Debbie” Sonenshine SOAR YogaTuesdays, 7:00-8:15 pm Join us each week for guidance on mindfulness and self-care. This therapeutic program is designed to increase body and mind awareness, strength, and flexibility. We will teach calming techniques for the overburdened sensory system and how to quiet a busy head and soothe the nervous system. We understand some of these new guidelines seem difficult, or even counter-intuitive for some of our participants. All the precautions we’re taking are within our health and safety protocols to ensure all our participants enjoy a safe environment at the MJCCA. We must enforce these protocols to sustain programming that is enriching and safe for our community.
